BootsnAll Travel Community

Back in September I was contacted through BootsnAll about a Washington, DC reporter (Wendy) for our NBC affiliate who wanted to do a report on people leaving jobs mid-career for extended travel. I'm planning a RTW trip for late next year.

I wasn't sure at first, as I was paranoid people at work would see it, and somehow I'd have to face my boss about it, or they'd shuffle me out the door sooner than I was ready to leave.

I did it anyways and it aired on an 11pm Monday newscast back in October. And as it turned out, about 3 employees below me saw it and mentioned it to me, one higher level person in another dept announced it out loud to me in front of some of my staff, and a few others who left my company mentioned seeing it. I played it down each time it was mentioned, but all in all, I had my 30 seconds of fame as a "future traveler."

The piece also made mention of some other BootsnAll members, though they only showed pics, no other live interviews except another local DC couple and a Lonely Planet editor.

What a great story! I remember putting you in touch with that NBC reporter ages ago, and then forgot about it... I'm glad it turned out to be a good thing. Do you know if the video is available online anywhere so we could see it?

I caught ads for the broadcast, but didn't see the broadcast itself. I didn't figure they'd actually take the time to find a BnA-type and would just interview some dot.com guy who sold his last business and decided to travel around for a year on his yacht.

I recorded the broadcast on my DVR, however have yet to transfer it to DVD and put online. It's in my plans to do so between now and November!

I finally got the Oct 2006 interview online! While it was a 2-part piece, I only kept the first part as the rest didn't mention me (call me conceited). The second part did mention a few other fellow BootsnAll'ers including Brianna (who is currently in Vietnam, on her trip around the world visiting wineries), though there were no pictures or interviews with them.
