I do love my current job. It's very challenging, fun, exciting, and I get paid a pretty decent wage. However, I am stuck in a tiny city with nothing to do. To get to a 'fun' place is either a long drive, or some connecting flights. If I were to want to travel to any major city in the US (other than Chicago) it would likely be a multi-city itinerary. If you're going international, expect the worst.
Aside from the obvious fun city things, has anyone out there moved to be in a location which is more travel-friendly? How has this affected your travels? |

I don't think I'd base my decision on where to live on the airport I'm closest to unless I traveled weekly for work. I'd rather enjoy the job I do every day then have one less connecting flight a couple times a year. Now if you are miserable in your current town and don't have any people there to give you a reason to stay then I'd say leave.

That's probably closer to my reasoning. The ease of travel, and therefore increased frequency, would just be a side benefit. |

I like to move. And I do it for a number of reasons. In fact, I'm planning my next move right now. I, too, really love my job (usually). I teach English to thugs and gangsters, and that is true good times.
But I live in Houston, which is the devil. Seriously, I don't think I've ever hated where I lived as much as I hate Houston. And there's a lot of good in Houston...but too many negatives for this Yankee! Anyhow. I am planning to leave a job I truly enjoy, a faculty that is pretty much second to none, because being in Houston is not fabulous. As soon as I can find something that is at least equally as interesting. I've done this before, too. Only, in reverse direction from what you're looking for: from city to country, every time. What can I say? I'm a country girl. Just...don't tell anyone. Advice to you? Think carefully. Is it worth leaving a job you really love? For me, the answer was yes, to get out of a locale I didn't love. But you really have to decide that for yourself. __________________________ Remember the Old Traveler’s Saying: “You may lose your money and your health and your sanity and some important organs, but they can't take away your travel memories unless they hit you hard on the head.” --Dave Barry |

I made my decision, got a job, accepted it, and today I told my current job I'm leaving.
I'm going to Atlanta, BTW. |
