Often, when reading travel books ,magazines, newspaper columns you will see reccommendations that vital documents like your passport are photocopied and kept separate from the originals.

Fine as far as it goes but as travellers know sometimes the copies can be lost or damaged beyond legibility at the same time.

I now also scan all important documents and e-mail them to myself at an internationally accessible address (Bootsnall, Hotmail. Yahoo) whatever your preference, Now in an emergency I can be sure of a copy at the nearest online computer

Good idea. I never thought of that even though I also have a web base e-mail account. By having this...I won;t have to worry about the copies getting damaged..

Woohoo! The less I have to carry, the better.

Another option is to sign up for a web based storage thingy like Xdrive, Idrive or even Yahoo's Briefcase.
