Seeing as it may be our final year of living in Asia, we're looking at going around to Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos. Then we'll head to the states for jobs (wherever they may be).

Nothing is set in stone yet, but I think I'll be taking off in September of '09. I'd like to do my TEFL/TOEFL training Chiang Mai then get a job somewhere in Thailand for a few months. After that, I'd like to travel for two or three months around SE Asia before heading to India where I'd do the same routine - then to Africa.

That's all I have so far! Big Grin

Hi everyone,
Im a newbie to this but am so super excited reading through all the different info and discussions. Thanks heaps for all the handy hints.
Im counting down the days til March 2009 because we (me and my partner, Josh) are packing up all our belongings and heading out to the big wide world. We are only in the beginning parts of planning a RTW and at this stage am unsure how long we will be gone and even where we will visit. The more we look in to it the more we realised how amazing (and how big!!) the world really is.
Each day I get more and more excited and become more and more obsessed with planning and learning. Im having so much fun just organising it!! Smile

Right now my thoughts are Turkey in the Spring. I love Istanbul, and it's time to return. If I can get a group of three or four, I want to rent a car and drive slowly from Ephesus to Cappadocia. If solo ... who knows!

Next year we're planning a multi-week road trip across the southern US. I wish we could do more - and maybe we will... We'll just have to wait and see. I'd like to get up to Alaska next year too.

If you had asked me about 2008, back in 2007, I wouldn't have known that I'd be heading to Israel this August. Yet, I am. I would have thought I was doing the aforementioned road trip, so... who knows? And I seem to have a busines trip this year that gets me to Europe so...maybe next year same luck?

2008- fly back home, go to work in November, work until May.

After may I'm usually quite flexible, THOUGH; I intend on applying to graduate school eventually.

I DID go to University of Salamanca for 7 months to get some sort of certification in my Spanish level, lacking the next best thing, a DELE qualificantion. In retrospect, I'd have been better off going to Guatemala for three months in a DELE prep course, which I may do anyways next year.

Still,I do love spain, and am having an interesting time.

Seriously, though, Paraquay calls to me. I have a friend from there, and it suits my needs well. Small, inexpensive, not much tourism going on, and I can go to university there if I play my cards right. I want to be nearly fluent in Spanish eventually, so I can move on to portugese and French.

Besides, spanish literature is very interesting indeed, and I'm just getting started on that path.

Well... Depends on a couple of factors (the suckiness of the US Dollar) and family situations...

If everything goes correctly - 1 month in Ghana or Ethiopia or 6 months in the DR to adopt a child - else 1 week in India (I'll take vacation when I'm over there for work) and 2 in Mexico or Spain.

Peace,

October 2009 is the start of my RTW. I'll be spending the last 3 months of the year, as well as the start of 2010, in SEA.

I'm also hoping to make a short trip to Vancouver in the spring sometime if it won't eat into the RTW budget too much.

Am planning on Honeymooning in Feb or May 09, starting in Sth Africa, then onwards:

Sth Africa - getting married & 3 months travel, then onto

Australia - Seeing family for 1 month , then

SEA (Cambodia,Myanmar,Vietnam & Laos) - 4 Months

Depending on money's saved this year, I would LOVE to add
Iran, Syria , Lebanon , Jordan & Eygpt as well to cap it all off.

We are then relocating to Sth Africa to live for awhile as
The awful weather and cost of living in London has Finally got to me/us.......Arghh

Only got one definite planned in for next year and that is my next epic train trip:

Beijing -> Hanoi -> Saigon -> Phnom Penh (and around Cambodia a lot...focus of the trip) -> Thailand -> Kuala Lumpar -> Singapore

I'm also hoping to either get 2 weeks in Oz or a week in Japan. Free accomodation with both so maybe I could do a week in each. This second trip depends on my financial position though as the UK is quickly becoming like Thatchers '80's Britain again!

Oh and no doubt a golfing holiday to Spain thrown in for good measure.
