Hi my name is Bill. I'm retiring after teaching art in a New Jersey middle school for 38 years and look forward to seeing as much of the world as I can. In 1999 I backpacked with my 21 year old daughter from Paris, Netherlands, Scotland, England, Wales, and Ireland. We stayed in Hostels and in London at a college and I loved every minute of it. I love coastal New England where I've gone back to repeatedly but I've never been west of Chicago and plan on starting my retirement with a USA road trip. Seeing places and meeting people - I can't wait to start.

I travel to different places whenever I can and my next goal is to travel through south america and maybe finally seduce a reach drug baron in colombia so I never have to worry about finances any more.
Untill that happens I'll be working as a low paid travel agent, trying to save for flight tickets cuz I guess you can't take a ferry from Europe to Brasil.

Hello, my name is Carolyn [nickname: poot] and I was born in Delaware USA and have lived here my whole life of 25 years. I joined this message board because I REALLY need to travel and live other places. Unfortunately, my husband loves his job and it will be very hard for him to leave, so I do not know when I will be able to make my vagabonding dreams come true. As soon as he is ready to part with his work family, we will sell our house and take off. Until then, I will enjoy this community and all of you travelers and learn as much as I can.

Hey there all. My name is Michael and I am new to the world of International travel. I'm 28 yrs. old and have lived in the Los Angeles area all of my life.

Growing up my travel was generally the result of visiting relatives in New England. Don't get me wrong, it was amazing and I wouldn't change it for anything. But I didn't really catch the travel bug until about four years ago when I finally made it to the Grand Canyon for the first time since I was in the womb. Since then I have done three separate weeklong backpacking trips inside the the Canyon. It's truely amazing!

Now, I need to broaden my horizons. So I am on my way to SEA for a month starting June 22. I fly into Bangkok and I think I will try to stay at Suk 11 (since there seem to be many who reccomend it) for a couple of nights before heading down to meet a friend in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Then, we will head back up to Bangkok, and continue through to Chiang Mai, over to Laos and hopefully discover ourselves in Vietnam before we return to Cambodia.

I am very excited to be going, and I am so happy to have found BootsnAll. This website and especially the forum is just so amazing, and it is wonderful to know that there are so many worldly travelers here willing to share their knowledge.

Thank you everybody, and Happy Travels!! Smile

Maybe I'll see some of you in SEA!!

Michael

Hi all!
Well, I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina and now go to a university in the piedmont-triad area of North Carolina. I've always been interested in travelling but have not been able to do it much, other than family trips to various places in the US (though don't get me wrong, those were enjoyed as well!)
The summer before my senior year of high school I went to Guatemala for nine days on a mission trip. This was one of the most amazing things I've ever done, making me want to do it more often.
This coming August - December I will spend the semester studying abroad in Oulu, Finland. I am counting down the days until I leave and I know it will be one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had.
I hope to travel much, much more in the future. I'm hoping that by joining BootsnAll I will get a broad outlook and some very usefull, hard to find information about travelling. Maybe even hear some inspiring stories as well! And who knows, maybe one day I'll be the one sharing the crazy stories!

Howdy!

My name is Matt. I am a 30-year old desert rat. I joined because I know a couple of people already on this board and I wanted a place to keep my thoughts and ideas as I head for Alaska for a few weeks this summer. I have more of a writing background than a travel background, but I am curious about the relationship between the experiences I have and the language I use to talk about those experiences (in the same way I wonder if taking a picture during my travels later on alters in some way my memory of that event...) Ok, so I guess that's a little more cerebral than I had planned on getting so I guess I'll leave it there. I am happy to be a member!

Hi there...

I'm Sara - I'm a 24 year old Canadian musician and teacher living, working and studying music in the great city of Seoul, Korea. I have just a couple of months to go before I move to the USA for grad school.

I caught the travel bug this year, and I think this site is a brilliant way to let fellow travellers keep in touch and share stories. I'm hopefully headed off to Bali in August, and I'd love to meet other people headed in the same direction - feel free to drop me a line.

Happy Trails! Smile

Hi all,
My name is Mark and I am a 24 years old Human Resource Manager. I have been to university and prior to that I was a qualified chef. I cought the travel bug last year and decided to go away with my girlfriend to USa, Fiji, NZ, Australia and Africa. Shortly after getting back we broke up and I have once again got the fever to leave this miserable Island known as England and experience things for myself. I intend to go back to Australia and work for a while to get a true feeling of what the country is really like. I have my heart set on emigrating but remain cautious which is why I must have a working holiday initially. If Australia is not for me then I guess I'll keep trying till I feel home. One thing that is certain is the fact I don't want to be in England for as long as absolutly necessary. Censored
I will be heading for Sydney around new year.
If anyone would like to meet up or if anyone can offer me advice, please drop me a line. Trinque

Cheers.

Hello all,
I guess I'll intro myself. First though, this site is awesome-so full of info and helpful people. My name is Jason. I am 19 and more-or-less a hippy (or so everyone tells me). I am not really "from" anywhere in particular being that i have moved soo many times. I was born on the Mexican border in the Air Force town of Del Rio, Texas. I was not a year old when I moved away and since have not been settled anywhere for more than a few months to a year. From the East coast to the West coast, from northern Montana to the Mexican border, from Hilo,Hawaii to Tokyo, Japan-this is my backyard. I currently reside in College Station, texas (home of the huge Texas A&M university). I am going to go on a trip to Japan in earlyish 2007. I will either go from the very souther tip of japan to the very northern tip, or from tokyo kinda work my way through some of southeast Asia to wherever I end up. Sweet !!! That is nough typing for now-slow keyboard typer.

The world is round, there is much to be found, lay no longer bound to what you thought was the world. Open your eyes and see the world for yourself-Go Vagabonding !

Hi! I'm a bit lazy so I'll take some of my profile and reuse it for my self-introduction.

Here's the deal. I'm 24 and I live with my parents. I have a well-paying job doing something I love in the field that I love, but I just can't see myself sticking with it for very long. I get along great with my parents, and that's the problem. I'm too comfortable here. So, I've decided that in a year, I'm going to quit my job and take a modified gap year. Actually, it'll be more like a gap six months. I'm going to save up enough money that I can travel Europe and possibly Southeast Asia for four months, then come home and take a month or two to find the right new job. I'm very excited about this Grand Plan to Take Over the World andit makes the little things that annoy me about my job seem, well, little because I know the job has an expiration date, you might say.

Looking forward to learning more here on BootsnAll!

Hi,
My name is Ruhaizad. I come from Johore, Malaysia, but live in Sabah, Malaysian part of Borneo with my wife and kids for the past 5 years. It was here that I fall in love with travel adventure - shortly after climbing down from Mount Kinabalu, the highest climber friendly mountain in South East Asia.
During my several trips to the mountain, I always heard grouses from most of the climbers around the world regarding lack of information about the climb. They were not informed properly by their tour operator about the climb, resulting in dissappointment, as they could not reach the summit.
So, I decided to build a website, Mount Kinabalu Borneo.com which is dedicated to all adventure travelers around the world, to prepare themselves before they pack their things up to the mountain.
I am really glad to be in Bootsnall community, as I could share some of my information, tips and guidelines regarding Mount Kinabalu climbing with you.
My dream is to spend my quality time with my family - by having our travel adventure aound the world - together.

hi all. my name is francesca. i hail from california, usa, though i currently live and work in south korea. i have been hitting up new places for almost ten years now, since the age of 16, when my first jaunt out of the states took me to a rural town in paraguay. i am mostly curious about: seeing things through other peoples' eyes, challenging my own assumptions, cultivating clarity and truthfulness. i love living outside of my home country ~ there is something so wild about never quite knowing what's going on around you. it humbles you like nothing else. this past year, teaching english here in korea, has been quite the lesson in going with the flow.
i've been to a number of different countries but haven't yet done the "independent travel" thing, at least not for more than a couple weeks...mostly i've travelled with school/service groups - a summer in paraguay, a semester in spain, a few weeks in latvia - and then of course working like i'm doing here in soko. have travelled a fair bit around korea in the time i've been here but not enough ~ only weekend excursions in between grueling workweeks. but that will change soon enough! on august 6th my boyfriend jesse and i take off from our now cozy and comfortable life in gyeongju korea, and fly to ulaan baatar! we will be spending a few weeks in mongolia, then a month in china and a couple weeks in japan. i'd love to hear from anyone who has been to any of those places. of course if i don't hear from you i'll just seek you out...now that i'm a member, i know where to find you, ha ha. Smile happy to be a part of this community, thanks for all you're all offering.

i like to move.

i've given in to it, and after many attempts to be employed and schooled in my society of the United States, I have decided to see what it does to me to be relatively free. I will take off on my bicycle September 2, 2006 from London to bicycle through europe and hopefully beyond.

i have high hopes to meet and make friends with fellow travellers, and "settlers," if you will, of those places I stay or pass through. I love this earth, and that is why i want to spend a lot of time looking at it while going from 15 to 20mph, but I'm transfixed by cultural diversity, and expect my attentions will be ever scattered 'cross the glories.

if you, by chance, are bicycling any stretch of europe or north africa this coming sept, oct, or november. drop me a line. i'd like to know you.

Hello, all!!

I am a junior in high school from Georgia, USA. Not a redneck, though: I used to live in Virginia (although that is the South too. Oh, well). I am afraid I have senioritis, badly, ever since I decided over Christmas that I wanted to travel. First it was a Gap before college, then it was both before and after, and now it's looking like it's just after... Frown

Well, plans can change. My more recent travelling plans include going up to Maine (again) this Christmas for my grandparents' 50th anniversary, going to Italy next spring break (yes, yes, yes!!!), and going to Peru with my sister (who just got back yesterday). I've been all around the East Coast and South, and to England once (although just London, which isn't England, I hear).

Right now, (well, RIGHT now) I am watching Snow White, and, duh, writing this. More specifically, I am working as a lifeguard at my pool (the head lifeguard is scary and overcontrolling, but I get good money for sitting on my butt).

I will be seen mostly on the boards for now, randomly answering any odd questions that I have no real experience on, but still want to add my two cents, or whatever. Feel free to ask anything!! (whether you'll get a straight answer or not is unforseeable) Razz

Hey everyone,

I'm Lucy. I'm 24 and just joined Bootsnall today.

I've travelled around Europe quite a bit on family holidays and a couple of years ago spent a summer working at a childrens day (woo hoo!) campy in NY.

Later that year I spent a month in Rajasthan India with some friends who run a tour company over there promoting responsible tourism and supporting local businesses etc. which was absolutely amazing even though it was incredibly hard at times.

I joined Bootsnall as I've got a trip around North America later on this year and honestly, I'm digging for tips and info! If anyone has any questions about anywhere I've been though, please feel free to ask.

A friend and I are also planning a RTW for 2008 so again, looking for people that have any tips to make the planning go more smoothly!!

Anyway, enough rambling. Happy travels everyone.

Lucy x

Greetings bootsnal members.

I'm Jurn a 22 y old Belgian that joined today.

I'm in the process of planning a rtw that should hopefully start around halfway march. As I haven't travelled a lot before, any information is appriciated.

The plan of doing a rtw trip started with reading a website from someone who did one (the one from Yag, his username on ThornThree) and hasn't let go of my since then. Despite what I mostly read, my friends are pretty supportive, it could offcourse be that they want me out too Smile. My parents aren't that enthousiastic though. But that won't stop me though.

Anyway, enough shouting. See you on the road Smile.

Thought I forgot something!

I'm Andrew, 19 and from Scotland. I got a taste for travel on trips with my parents, seeing faraway places on tv and reading lots of travelogues.

I've been lurking here for a while after joining, but recently I've decided to take a trip around Europe. Everything's coming together nicely and with a bit of luck I'll be somewhere on the mainland in a few weeks.

I'm about to finish the first year of Software Development at college in Glasgow and trying to figure out something that isn't the second year of Software Development in Glasgow later this year. Piss up and brewery spring to mind where my life planning skills are concerned. So, we'll see where I am in autumn..!

The site and forum's great. Lots of cool people willing to help and lots of decent info just waiting there.

Andrew

YO! My name is Emily and I am currently in the midst of longterm (hopefully) travels in Europe. I am from California and I am 22. This is my first travelling experience and I am so happy to be here because I worked so long saving up money with this dream in mind. I am learning a lot being out here on my own, but lately I have been a little lonely. During the past 3 months I have s^pent time in Italy, Spain, Portugal and now France. I am thinking that maybe my true calling is off the beaten track.....i think i need to go somewhere random in order for my mind to really be opened. who knows. I look forward to asking you all a lot of questions and hope that I can answer some of yours in return!
