Hi everyone.
<< As you can see this is my first post. I am really excited to be a member here as this appears to be a forum where everyone can share their views and experiences on past and future travel in a mature enviroment. I am a student at Central Washington University and will be graduating next spring.

I fell in love with traveling at an early age as my parents and I visited Mexico annually. I really had not had an adventure travel until last summer my friend and I bought tickets to Costa Rica a week before leaving. We got backpacks and maps 2 days prior to departure and just went for it. I went for only 2 weeks and quickly found that was not enough time to experience a country or people.

A major rookie mistake aside and plenty more to be had next summer I save for my school and wait for my grad present of 2 one way tickets from anywhere in the world from the parents. 1 to get me there, and when from wherever I am whenever I am done!

My name is Michelle and I'm from Southern California. I got my first taste of travel in London my freshman year of college and absolutely loved it. I studied there with school for the summer and then did another summer trip the following year through Asia. Also, last year I went on a cruise through Europe with my family but found that the "quick version" of most of these amazing places (i.e., from 8 am-5 pm- one day in each place) was too short. I am going to Madrid in September for an intensive language course and then will be traveling for the month after to a few choice places. I am excited about what the next few months have in store for me-- and a bit nervous too!

'Ello all! My name is Jessica and I am a 19 year-old starving college student in Virginia with an inexpressible urge to travel. - I also have a love for run-on sentences. Bear with me. Smile - I have only been to Europe once on our family's first "big" vacation. We went on a tour of Southern Ireland for 10 days by rental car. My dad let me drive for a precious 15 minutes in which time I managed to hit 5 roundabouts in a row! I felt like I had my driver's permit all over again. I am the one obsessed with Ireland in the family - and we're not even Irish!

For as long as I can remember, I have read about other countries and travelling...the urge to just drop everything and go gets stronger all the time. I am hoping to study in London next summer at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts...and who knows...maybe I'll just stay!

I would LOVE to meet anybody from anywhere who likes to pen pal. Or who just wants some good times with a sef-proclaimed goober. Haha Smile

Besides loving run-on sentences, I also love to write in excessive amounts, so I will cut myself off now.

Heyo. I guess this is where I'm supposed to introduce myself. My name's Drew.

I obviously like to travel. And I like alcohol. And music. And food. And if I can get all of those things at the same time, I'm a happy man. Seriously... some onion rings, a six pack, some Elliott Smith or Augie March, and I'm set. I'm not that complicated.

Grew up a military brat, so I've lived all over the place including much of the southern US and the Philippines. That's probably what got me interested from the start and why I get bored with staying put so easily. Either that or I have ADHD.

I've been to Ireland twice now, once alone (which was more or less a disaster) and once with a friend. I had a blast on the second go, and that sealed the deal for me. If I had the money, I'd be on the road all the time.

I'm here trying to read up on how to not be miserable when traveling alone.

Hi everyone!

First off, thanks to Jessie Spiegel for the great welcome email I received from when I signed up. Smile

I'm 26 and currently live in Toronto, canada (8 yrs) and was born in Ottawa, canada. I moved here when I was 18 to attend university and graduated with a degree in economics & natural resource management. I speak English, French, Cantonese and basic japanese and I really hope to learn spanish one day too. Haven't really done extensive travelling (just the usual 2 week vacations) but I plan to later this year when I quit my job (that's another story though) so that's why I'm here!!

I've been a lurker for quite sometime now and I must say the comments, topics discussed are an awesome read (especially when I'm not motivated to do my 'work' here at my job Wink) I especially enjoy - corporate wasteland and spiritual traveller. I can't wait to start posting...so please bear with me all you veterans... I'm a newbie but I'll try not to be too annoying Smile!!!

Hey there good people!

This is Vasudev in Bangalore, India. My work and my own
madnes takes me to exotic places where no sensible vegetarian ought to go. So naturally, I go and starve and generally have a good time.

Soon I'll be telling you about my adventures in in Cambodia, Thailand, Japan, Zambia, South Africa etc. I just got
back from Cambodia where I and the wife had a fantastic time in Angkor Vat and Phnom Penh. This time I found his amazing 100% vegetarian Thai restaurant on Khao San Road in Bangkok. I'll tell you more.

And if you guys need some insider information about India,
just drop me a line. The very first tip I have is : Avoid Delhi and Mumbai airports like the plague!

Meanwhile, do visit my miserable blog at http://vmurthy.blogspot.com

Most Cordially

Hello,

Been bitten by the travel bug, dammit!

I’m about to finish an army career, and yet to do a reasonable holiday. Sure, I’ve been to a few foreign countries, I’m from one myself Smile

But I have only holidayed overseas for a fortnight at a time, doing the motel/safe touristy thing. I plan to go on my grand tour mid 2007, and hope to find helpful information here, and with luck maybe provide some in future.

Once that’s out of my system, I can return to life again. Hopefully!

Hello, my name is Tim and I am from North Wales.

This past two months I have been day dreaming about travelling to various places of the world, thinking of how great it would be to work in another country before moving on to the next and starting it all over again.

I'm only 21 years old but I don't have much going on in my life, I don't have anything that would hold me back from experiencing the different cultures and it's something that I find more appealing each day.

The plan I have in my mind is to save up enough to take the first step of exploring the world. I (like many others have I'd imagine) would then like to write about my experiences.

I don't want to save up too much and have money readily available for me, I want to experience the scares of not knowing what I am going to do next, I want absorb everything the country I am in has to offer.

I feel it will make me a better person as I try to come to grasps with other countries language and culture. It's something I am excited about.

I have signed up to this forum because I have no idea where to start my adventure. As this is what it will be to me, a great adventure.

Hi everyone!

My name is Sarah, I’m 22, and I’m currently living in Los Angeles. I’ve been in living in southern California since I started college in 2001 (I can’t believe it’s been 5 years!), and I am ready to leave.

In the year since I graduated from college, I have worked at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla and at Harvey Mudd College (my alma mater – any other Mudders out there??). But this year hasn’t been all work – I also spent almost 3 months in Europe on my very first solo trip. It was awesome!! And I was hooked. Little did I realize that my decision to take a post-graduation Europe trip would turn me into an aspiring world traveler!

Once back in the US after my wanderings through Europe, I almost immediately started planning another trip for this upcoming summer, the last summer I would have to spend traveling before starting graduate school in September 2006. As I thought about where I wanted to go, I realized that I would never be able to see everything I wanted to in another 2-3 month trip. I then hurriedly wrote a letter to the graduate program I will be attending asking to defer for a year. I was granted the deferral, and now I am in the process of planning a 9-10 month rtw trip. While planning this trip has been fun (so far anyway), I have learned what seems to be one of the most valuable traveling lessons – I will never be able to see everything I want to (how could I have ever been so naïve as to think that I could?).

I want to thank everyone for their great travel tips – BnA has been a great trip-planning resource!

-Sarah

Hey everyone Smile

I'm Erin, from Perth, Western Australia. I'm (almost) 22 - next week, in fact - and have just graduated from university with Honours in English ... but I don't always articulate myself as though that's the case Wink I'm currently working as an office pleb at a financial planning firm (very boring, and not very well paying), and am looking for some casual cafe or waiting work to supplement my income, so I can head off as planned on my trip to Europe in April 2007. I'm not really planning to come home, though I'm sure I will one day.

I've travelled around much of Australia, as well as to North America, UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Bali, and one of my most favourite places in the world, Singapore. My dream is to see every country in the world before I die, so I figure that doing Europe is a good start. On the back of that trip, I also want to head over to the Americas, as well as teaching ESL in Japan or Korea, but I'm pretty happy to go wherever the wind takes me.

If you were to ask me, I'd probably tell you that my interests include travel, reading, music (particularly rock & alternative, as well as trip hop, drum n bass, hip hop etc), partying and living life as best as I can. However, my guilty pleasures also include Robbie Williams and gorgeous Portuguese men. I'm a total foodie, am willing to try anything twice, and hope one day to fight my way through a PhD in order to live the life of academia - but not yet.

Currently, I have a little "planning stages" blog going on, but I'm still debating as to whether to transfer it to bootsnall... however, I urge you to have a look and leave a comment! Erin vs. the World

Cheers, and happy travelling everyone!

My open arms, my lucky charm, my number eight, my revelate.

Hey

I don't know how my previos post ended up with nothing written on it, but I thought I would try again. My name is Lauren and I am a college student who can't wait to leave school and start her career as an international nomad. I am from California, and I love backpacking, sailing and pretty much anything that involves nature and exploring new parts of the world. My goal as a traveler is tosail around the world and to stumble upon a commune of travelers and just stay there because I have no intinerary or previous plans. May sound reminiscent of "the beach" but I def had that idea before the movie.
I love traveling ruggedly and with no real idea where I am going. I would love to meet people who want to travel the same way I do and that why this sight is awesome. I love sharks and think that Wet Hot American Summer is the best movie of all time. Nice to meet u all!

Hello all,
I'm Allison, from Rhode Island. In a former life I was a high school Spanish teacher. I have now decided to leave my job and embark on a round-the-world adventure. I'll be taking off at the end of August to head to Fiji first, then New Zealand for the month of September, Australia until the middle of November, SEA until January, India for a month or so, Africa, and then who knows? I'm a fan of seeing where it is that life takes me next and flying by the seat of my pants. I'll be embarking on this journey by myself, which leaves me both nervous and excited. If any of you have any experiences or advice to share, please send them my way! Also, if you plan to be in the same neck of the woods around the same time I am, let me know. I'd love to chat and maybe meet up somewhere!

Well, it's nice to meet you all!!

Allison

Hello. I'm Greg. In real life, I'm an accountant. When I can escape the audit world, I like to travel the world. I seem to make it to Europe mostly, which is great. This year, business travel has included China, Japan, and Thailand. BEWARE - Thailand is HOT!

I would like to meet people who are at a point in life to take great trips and share experiences. Would be good to meet other guys in the same boat. I like to play amatuer photographer...therefore, have wonderful pics, but none of me! If you want to share, hit me up. Thanks.

Kirk Benson here. I heard about this forum from a caller on a PBA radio broadcast today, and had to look it up. I'm a frequent poster on Thorn Tree under the moniker "la_vache".

I am 57 and retired from the software industry. My wife and 2 daughters and I live in Cumming, GA, a suburb north of Atlanta.

I've visited 30+ countries and 48 US states. I recently did a 2-month solo trip to France, Nepal, India, Thailand, and Korea, doing the Everest Base Camp trek while in Nepal.

Other than travel, I enjoy geocaching and offroading in my 99 Jeep Wrangler.

My wife is French, and I have visited France many times and know the country quite well.

Hey guys, I just found this website while browsing travel blogs.

Anyways, I just started trying to save and put together enough money to travel for 6-7 months before I get a real job which wont give me longer than 2 weeks at a time! I am from texas, went to school in Colorado and am currently living in Washington D.C. The harsh truth of it all is that I have traveled all over the U.S. but hardly any where outside of it. I decided awhile ago that I need to see the world, so this is my first stop for help and travel tips and maybe some traffic on my website. Feel free to leave me any comments. Thanks!
