South African Trekking the World |
Hey All
My name's Kathy, aka Trekker. I have been checking out BnA for a few years and only started being more active on it in the past few months. I write a weekly article for the BnA south africa blog, www.southafricalogue.com Originally from South Africa, I now reside in the US. Spent 3yrs living and teaching in Seoul, Korea and have travelled through a lot of Asia. Also spent 6mths living in Alaska. I have a degree in Environmental Education and am working as a vet tech in my home town, Eugene, OR. Am presently trying to decide where I want to go in life, find a real job, my own place and settle, or keep traveling... I am quite happy with the latter but family pressure prefers the former. Hope to meet you all somewhere in the world.. Trekker "A trekking we shall go - preferably thru mud!!!" www.seattlelogue.com http://flickr.com/photos/satrekker/ |

Halo! I'm a newbie.
Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, but have been living in Seattle, WA for the past 17 years or so. I love visiting new places, meeting new people, experiencing and learning new things. I stumbled across this site oh, about 2 years ago. As a visitor I browsed the site and got excited about trying this round the world style travel. The time to do this, I decided, should be soon. My plan is to start either at the end of this year or the beginning of next year. My previous travel experience has been short burts; the longest was 3 months covering Taiwan, Hongkong, Macau, China, Tibet, Indonesia. For my first RTW, I can use tips and advice from you all experienced RTW travelers. Thanks for accepting me as a new member. I'm looking forward to meet some of you somewhere sometime when our paths cross. At least, we'll be seeing each other online from time to time. -Ivone |

Hey guys. I'm 22, from British Columbia, Canada and looking for some advice, help and tips from you more experienced folk. I'm interested, right now, in Asia and Africa. In specific, Africa.
Anyway, I'm sure I'll post a fair bit over the next while as I'm trying to get out of town on a very slim budget before the semester starts, or else I'll back out and end up going to school -- where I'm REALLY not all that happy. I feel too selfish to go on about myself, so I hope that's enough. |

I hope this appears in the right place for an indroduction.
I did my long distance backpacking in the 70's in Africa. Just as well as some of the places were much quieter then than they are now though Mozambique was still fighting colonial a war then and things were not so quiet there. In the last 10 years I have become more interested in pilgrimage routes and have walked and cycled the Camino Frances, Via de la Plata and am working my way down the Via Francigena (got to Switzerrland so far). I already contribute to some forums in this area and run my own site caminolinks. |

Hey, my name's Tyler and I'm from Toronto, Ontario, Canada though I now go to school and live in Montreal, Quebec. I'm only twenty years old but with my parents (mostly) I've spent time in France, Portugal, Spain, Barbados, Antigua, Jamaica, Mexico, Eastern Canada and much of the U.S. On my own I've travelled again across North America and to Italy.
My main reason for joining the board is that I graduate in two years time and would very much like to do the whole world round. Ideally I'd like to go east out to BC, up through Alaska and into Russia. From there, westward to Europe and through to Paris. From Paris, to Rio (or somewhere else in SA, but ideally Brazil) and then all the way home! But, I have a long time to figure out how possible this is. Hopefully, I can make it work. |

Hi all,
My name is Annie, and this is my first time posting here and also my fisrt bigg(sih) trip. I am travelling round the states, from New York to San Francisco, kind of in a circular route I thing, through the middle and up the sides. If that makes sense. I have been wanting to do this sorta thing for ages, and, er...i am so its great. Little unsure of how to manage it all, but thats pretty fun as well so all is good so far. May aim in travelling is to see as much of the wierd and wonderful of course, but also to stretch myself and to test my independance blah de blah and all that. Im not sure yet, as I am still in New York but its all an instinctive urge And thats all I can think of to say right now...though I will most likely be posting prolifically on other areas, hope to be pi[quote]Hi all, |

My name is Jim Paris. I've lived in Los Angeles for the last 40 years and done some travelling in Mexico, Canada, and Europe. My job doesn't allow me to get away nearly as much as I'd like to, but there's always hope. This November, I'm planning a three-week trip to Argentinean Patagonia, from Buenos Aires and down along the coast by land to Puerto Madryn, Puerto Deseado, Rio Gallegos, Ushuaia, and perhaps hopefully El Calafate.
I'm the MIS manager for an accounting firm, though not an accountant myself, and have worked with computers since around 1964. I maintain a website on Yahoo-360 which can be accessed by clicking on: http://360.yahoo.com/profile-eS9EVlEidKqpEPs.it6CuM2J My hope is that I can both use the collective knowledge of the BootsnAll community and perhaps help by making my own contributions. I learned about BootsnAll from Leif Even Pettersen whose Battery Killer website has entertained greatly of late. Here's hoping to hear from some of you soon, Jim |

I'm Andrei, live in Toronto, Canada and was born in Romania. Went backpacking through most Europe, using both Eurail and InterRail, camping & skiing in the USA, and a few sun destinations. I haven't been travelling as much as I used to in the past few years, but plan to make up for it ASAP - thinking of South America, actually.

Hi All
I'm Becks and I'm currently in Sydney... I have been travelling for the last 9 months South Africa, Namibia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia arriving here in April... I have also done a far bit of travelling in my past. I have fallen in love with OZ but was not expecting it to be so bloody cold.... I have just moved from Cammeray in North Sydney to Coogee and although it's a backpacker mecca, I have actually only moved here as I have an Australian friend (my rule is to live with locals) who is starting a new job in Ranwick and wanted to be this side. But I am sure that it's gonna be a lot of fun, and even in the rain it's more fun to stand at the bus stop waiting for the bus to work, drinking coffee, whilst watching the waves crash on the rocks, rather than sitting in traffic on the M56 anyday......... So in a nutshell that me.... A day without laughter is a day wasted! |

G'day, G'day my name that I was given at birth by my parental units is Dylan Carr. It was they who got me interested in traveling with family trips to Ireland, Germany, England and then likes- and now the bug has taken off with me. Fresh out of Highschool 18 years old and looking to get lost in this world of ours before we lose it. (the world's gonna end in 2012 so I'd better get started)
I am looking to backpack, sail, hike, camp, bum-it, hitchhike, be a courier and just travel in general. After becoming free from the structure of Highschool I realized that I needed to travel and define my own structure. Also, the things I am interested in(poetry, filmaking, performance, writing, philosophy, etc)would be greatly facilitated in traveling. Hope to run into some of you out there and as the illustrius tigger would put it: TaTaForNow |

Greetings!
My name is Heather. Born in Baltimore, Maryland. Was there long enough to be born and my father was transfered to Japan and then to Hawaii. They had me traveling from the get go. I think it must be in my blood. From Hawaii to West Virginia. West Virginia to Vermont. Then I finally graduated High School in 1983 and took the biggest trip of my life at that time. Kenya, with the Experiment in International Living. That was after I to a one month wilderness canoe trip in Norther Quebec at age 16 or 17. Both excellent experiences. Then college with a year off. That got me to England, Scottland and Wales with my Mom. We saw the Space shuttle blow up while we were in Glasgow. Bummer . I kick myself for not getting to Ireland while I was in wales. I was so close. From there we got home and I drove solo across the USA from Florida to Idaho. I made it to Durango, Colorado where I stayed and got a job for while. Then I went back to school. College allowed me to follow the Dead on the east coast. Graduation. Moved to St. John USVI. Moved back to Vermont. Grad School. A 3rd USA cross contry trip. This time I made it all the way to California from Vermont. Marrried. Divorced. Then, TEN YEARS in the real work force with Ben and Jerry's. Yowsa. Was able to take a western Caribbean Cruise. It sucked. And my third trip to Hawaii this time as an adult. And finally a trip back to St. John to see if I could relocate and I did. So here I am and about to embark anmy first trip to South America. Peru. Which after all of this ramble is how I found this wonderful site. I hope to meet folks on the forum. If you have stories or info about Peru, Please let me know. Cheers Heather Travel on. |

Hello world.
I'm Kevin. I grew up in an LA suburb called Torrance. Went to school for a little over a year in Vancouver, BC. Been back in LA for a couple years, this time living in Venice Beach. I'm an artist, working in animation. Currently 27, I skateboard, snowboard, go backpacking, and occasional roadtripping. I need to see more of the world which is what brought me here. I'll be going to Europe solo in a couple of weeks! Not much of a writer, this was really just copied and pasted from my bio... but I'll be posting more specific questions relating to my trip elsewhere. If anyone needs tips on the areas I've mentioned living in, perhaps I can help. |

Lost in Place |
My name is Katie, and I was born and raised in Wisconsin. I was given some great opportunities in high school to travel, which took me to New Orleans, St. Louis, New York City, and Mexico (Mexico DF, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta).
When I was 20, my best friend convinced me to spend our Spring Break in Europe. We did the typical London/Paris/Brussels/Amsterdam tour in 10 days. It was just enough to convince me I needed to go back for longer. Luckily, I saved enough elective credits to spend my last semester (11th!!) of college studying in the Netherlands. I was able to visit some of Eastern Europe and quite a bit of Western Europe. I came home with the desire to travel forever, but unfortunately the realities of the real world came crashing down on me. I had to get a job. A real one to pay those damn student loans. But I probably found one of the coolest jobs ever. During my college years, I sold fireworks in the summer, and they offered me a 10-month a year position working for them. This still allowed me to travel some of the time so I agreed. I spent my first two months that first year traveling in Europe for 5 and a half weeks. I spent New Year's Eve with my Dutch friends in Holland, met some of my extended family in Norway, and visited friends in Sweden, Finland (with a day trip to Tallinn, Estonia), Madrid and Barcelona, Spain. The next year, I spent two months (this January and February) traveling in Guyana and Suriname, and a lot of it in the rainforest. In less than 3 weeks, I'm headed to Antarctica to work for 6 months, and then I will travel for a few months in Central Asia, and finally return back to fireworks for the summer. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Hopefully!! |

How ya doin?
I'm Don, an American guy in his thirties living and working in Moscow, Russia. I stumbled across BNA when I googled "adventure travel single" while planning my next R&R trip. While I mostly travel for work (and mostly within Russia) I wanted something off the beaten path and solo-traveller friendly. I'm originally from New York City; I grew up just outside of JFK airport. I remember watching the planes from all over coming in and going out, and longed to be on one. I remember really looking forward to visiting relatives in faraway places like New Jersey, and begging my mom to take me for a long drive out to somewhere new. I've been working in Russia for two years now, and have been from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok. I love Russia, though it can be difficult to do that sometimes. I'd be glad to share my tips for getting around here if anyone is planning on visiting. Recently I ran my first Marathon, up in Rovanemini, Finland. For anyone considering a fly-in race, the Santa Claus Arctic Marathon is the one to do! You start off with Santa firing the starter's pistol, and cross the Arctic Circle as the start line. The route is beautiful (they say it's flat, but it does have several small hills that are a bit of a challenge), and it's not too crowded. I'm thinking about Paris in April, but dread training in the Russian winter. You have a choice, run 'till your lungs freeze, or do the hamster wheel treadmill torture. Ugh! I'm thinking about going back to Southeast Asia on that next R&R and catching up with fellow expats over there, or perhaps climbing Fuji or Kilimanjaro. I'm going to cruise the forums here and see what folks have to say. Seeya! Don |

Greetings Earthlings;
My name is Mark Lindsey, I live in Scottsdale, Arizona (USA). I've been traveling my whole life, I'm half way old now at 45. I figure I've still got another 40 years left to go where I haven't been yet. I've been everywhere in the North West Hemisphere. As far west to Hawaii. As far north to Alaska. As far south to Caracas Venezuela and as far east to Bermuda, and 99 percent of the points in between. I lived in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic for four years, San Jose, Costa Rica for 6 years, Panama City, Panama for 2 years and cruised in my small sailboat throughout the Atlantic and the Caribean from Halifax, Nova Scotia to all of the Caribean islands via Bermuda for 8 years. I am planning my next big adventure now. I had to take a 2 year break here in Scottsdale to make some money and have all of the horrible Dominican root canals and fillings replaced. A word of advise, Don't get your teeth fixed in the Dominican Republic. I am going to take the bus from Lima,Peru to Tierra Del fuego and then up to Buenos Aires and then make my way into the Amazon from the backside of the Andes to Peculpa, Peru and continue on by boat to Tabatinga, Columbia and end up in Bogota. Wish me luck. |

Hello, all,
My name is Joanne, and I'm addicted to travel (like you haven't heard that one here before). I'm a mom of four living in Colorado, and we love to travel whenever we can. We haven't been anywhere too exotic, but we're always on the lookout for new places that fit in our budget. I write about our experiences and offer tips for folks with kids on my blog at http://www.vacationing-with-kids.com. Nice "meeting" you all. This place looks like fun! |

Hi,
My name is ramesh and from an unfortunate combination of first and last names I got called Rambo on campus, and the nick stuck.(I'm using it here, and that's my final offer). I joined here because I started planning a RTW open ended trip in the next three years, which I'm trying to extract time for(it'll probably take about 140 days to do about half of what I want to do, and I'm not even sure just exactly what I want to do yet...) . I'm going to be posting in the RTW forum. I'm not cheap as much as value addicted (ie, I'll stay in a three star hotel in australia but I'd much rather pay $30 for a room night, than $250, so shoot me). I am looking for friends to talk to and maybe share time with (I'm partial to the opposite sex that's good looking and interesting, but have friends of all varieties both online and off, (as you can tell I'm fun and have quite the ego...) This looks like a good forum. |

Hello,
I'm Jenn, a 20 year old student. I studied abroad in the spring of 2006 and that is how the travel bug bit me. Now I cannot wait to go back and I'm already planning and dreaming about my next trip. After school I will spend a few years in the military and hopefully that will give me a chance to do more travelling, and after that-- who knows I'm looking forward to talking with you all and sharing stories. |
