Hi Colin here. Born and bred in New Zealand. Enjoy travel, but never seem to have enogh money to do what I want to do!
Have been to Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines (Met my wife there), Europe, UK and USA. Planning another trip next year to maybe Canada & USA.(2009)
My interests are Photography, walking and the outdoors, and also love Asia and its culture. I run a Philippine dance group here in Auckland, which gives me a change to meet a lot of people from other cultures.
Still a lot of places on my list to visit, b ut maybe just end up reading about a lot of them!
Thanks
Colin

Hi,
My name is JamieSue. I’m originally from a tiny town in South Carolina, USA and started dreaming of traveling when cable t.v. reached our house when I was about 12. I’ve lived in Colorado briefly and then New York City for the last 7 years. I’m 32 now and I quit my job in NYC in October to finally see more of the world. I’ve vacationed in Peru, France, Italy, and the Dominican Republic and I’ve seen much of the USA. I’ve been living in Argentina since January. I love vacations where I drive and wander and I’ve almost always traveled alone.

I also love to dance and I’ve been doing LindyHop (swing dancing) for the last five years as well as dancing to blues music and more recently a little Tango. I’ve been working in computer programming (VB.net and ASP.net) and software architecture for the last 10 years. Now that I’m traveling, I’m programming remotely part time.

I think the next trip will be to China – but I’m still figuring out the details on that. My website is http://Jamiesue.typepad.com where I post about my traveling and dancing.

Hey there.

I'm Geoff and I'm a 33 year-old Londoner.

I'm quite a late convert to the joys of travelling - I've been to a fair few places in Europe in the past, but it's only in the last two years I've properly got the travel bug.

After a couple of three-week 'speed-backpacking' trips to Mexico & Laos, I'm now planning my first round the world trip, leaving next March for a year.

And I can't bloody wait!

Hi,

I'm Laura and a giddy 29yr old teacher.

After years of budget backback adventures in Europe and dreams about going to South America, I'm finally off this summer for a speed trek (5 weeks) starting in Rio and leaving from Lima.

Am very excited as have dreamed about going to South America since watching cities of Gold on TV in the 80s! Shame its only 5 weeks but teaching is not as well paid as you'd expect and have to get back to teach my lovely year 4 class!

Good to say Hi to you all! Smile Smile

Hello everyone-

Name's Yvette, and I'm a 22 year old physics/astronomy student currently residing in Cleveland, Ohio. Will be graduating in December 08 and plan to do a rtw between January and July/August 2009, depending on where I get into grad school while on the road (hopefully). I'm truly looking forward to it, even if my curmudgeony profs/peers don't understand the urge. Smile

I'm Hungarian so I've been lucky enough to visit decent swaths of Europe and studied abroad in New Zealand last year, so I suspect my trip's just an elaborate excuse to visit old friends and relatives. (Hey, at least I'm honest...) Will be working in the San Francisco area this summer and am looking forward to driving out there and exploring! Looking forward to poking around here more, from the looks of it there's a great trove of information to go through.

Hello all!

My name is erika ryn, I am an interdisciplinary artist and dancer, and mother of a now 7 year old girl.
I am graduating in one week (May 8) with a BFA in Digital Art from ASU in Tempe, AZ. We have had a great time living here for 4 years, but I have the "itch" to start a new chapter, and travel. I suppose after all I have my mother's "gypsy blood," I grew up all over the east coast (New York, Jersey, Deleware, Maryland, Florida, summers in North Carolina) as well as in the bay area, Ca.

The best travel experience as of yet - driving from Florida to Long Island NY with my mom when I was like 13, and going to New Orleans with my closest friend a few years ago. We are taking our first out of the country trip (my daughter and I) to Ireland this summer!!!

We are also going back to California, and up to Portland / Seattle to check out possible new living adventure for the next few years (at least).

Things I love - cupcakes, good books, salty ocean air, experimental video, tribal fusion dance, potlucks, road trips, sound, colored pens, cartoons, monkey bars, humor, quotation marks

Things I do not love - wedgies, burnt cupcakes, pollution (riding bike next to tooooo many cars), billboard top 10, grumpy pants, all caps

Hello!

I'm Dave from Canada. I'm in my 30's, based in Toronto.

I am always looking for ways to travel constantly.

I am off to South America ( Peru and Bolivia ) for a quick trip at the end of May / early April.

I love roadtripping around North America. I love it so much that I have set up my very own driveaway operation. Based in Canada - but driving to / from the United Stated, I offer to deliver peoples car to them, whereever they need it. You'd be surprised how often that happens. It mean free or cheap transportation around North America. Budget travel at its best. But you must like driving. Check it out: Hit The Road Dot Ca From time to time I get a car that I can't delivery myself.

Hi, I'm Beth, and I'm gearing up to travel a lot more in the next few years. I wish I'd done more in my thirties, but oh well!

I did spend a year in England in the 1980s and have been doing some scuba diving the last few years, mostly in the Caribbean.

I'm going to be starting up my own website and adding a blog about Denver to it by the end of the summer.

This is a great site--I'm so glad I found it!

Hey everyone, I just registered so I'm introducing myself Smile

I'm 24 and working as a meteorologist near Boston, but I'm originally from New Jersey. I've always loved seeing new places but the real passion for travel got to me in college when I read an article about backpacking through Europe. I started planning right away. I planned itineraries, researched places and tried recruiting a friend to come with me. Unfortunately I never got to take my trip because even though I had time between semesters, I didn't have money! Now that I have a real job I've got money, but no time!
I've gotten so frustrated with the 'saying' and not the 'doing' that I've started doing something about it. I started a savings account with ING (nicknamed Travel Fund), I've ordered travel brochures for tons of locations, I've got magazines and travel books, and through research I've even starting looking off the old beaten trail of civilized cities to wanting to go to far off locations in Africa and Southeast Asia. I'm looking into volunteering programs as well. I'm working to save my vacation days through my job, and worked a job teaching an after-school club of elementary school kids about weather to earn some extra travel cash.
Everyone I know considers me a dreamer, but at some point I need to make my dreams a reality!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Jason. I'm 28 years old and live in Canberra Australia.
I recently have decided to quit my job and use my savings to backpack around some of our amazing world.

My current thoughts are to travel through South East Asia for approx three months, then travel West Europe for about three months. Then see how much money I have left and from their who knows?

Hi All,

After lurking for months, I've finally decided to come out and join the In Group (that would be you.) My husband and I are currently in the middle our "big trip", touring the world in 15 months. We started in October 2007 in Nepal, and from there traveled Tibet, India, China, Hong Kong, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and are currently in Thailand. We just spent two awesome months volunteering at an orphanage and general "do-good" organization in Pattaya, and are preparing to head to Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, and Mauritius before taking another volunteer break in Cape Town, South Africa. This time we'll be volunteering with a penguin rescue group. Then we'll be touring the southern continent before touching down in Europe -- briefly -- and heading home to Canada just in time for Christmas.

Before this trip we'd been to China and Japan in 2005, then in 2006: Ecuador, Peru, and the Galapagos Islands, and later that year Tanzania and Mt. Kilimanjaro.

We thought this trip would help cure the itchy feet, but it's only served to show us that traveling is something we want to continue to do for our lifetime. We've learned so much about ourselves, and the world and just people in general. Travel has been a better education than either of our university degrees ever gave us (sorry mom!)

We finally figure we have enough experience to offer advice here and certainly could use help planning the rest of our trip. We've fumbled through so far with some luck and a lot of hard work!

Thanks all,

Val Our travel blog

Hello all

I'm Tom, from Birmingham, UK, and I'm turning 30 this year (shudders).

I've been in a high pressure trading job ever since graduating and a few months ago finally decided to give it up to follow twin dreams of travelling and writing.

Later this month I'm off to Asia for the first time, beginning in the South East before moving onwards to India. A very loose itinerary to say the least, but the break I need from the excessively planned and rigid lifestyle I've been leading these last few years.

I've previously spent a lot of time in the USA. Fairly unusually for a Brit I'm a huge fan of the NFL, so I like to get over at least once a year to see a game, my favourite so far has been Lambeau in the snow...

I also spend a fair bit of time in Sweden, sadly less so since breaking up with my Stockholm-based girlfriend. Still a lot of mates over there though, and I particularly love the lakes and forests of the north.

Well, I've ordered the bag today, so officially I can call myself a 'backpacker' for the first time. Not sure how it'll work out, but I'm not going to die wondering.

Cheers all

My name is Chris Leighton, I'm 24, from Washington, D.C., and have 5 weeks to burn in SE Asia before I have to detox and get ready for law school.

I suppose I'm at about a sophomore international travel level after vacationing in a half-dozen Carribean islands and countries and studying abroad for 6 months; but I've never really gone balls-out for such a long period and welcome any tips you seasoned globetrotters might have to offer.

As for my hobbies, I'm very interested in history, golf, music, heavy drinking, fishing, sailing, foreign women, sarcastic people and general merry-making. I've spent the last 2 years as paralegal at an enormous law firm trying to convince myself not to become a lawyer, but as that has failed, I need to make the most out of my summer before going into battle for the next 3-30 years. That said, I'm not looking to go on anything resembling a bender or break any laws, am hoping to find the balance between partying/sightseeing/relaxation.

Travel is fast becoming my favorite thing to do and I already know its something that I will NEED to incorporate into my professional/future life.

I've really enjoyed reading and learning from some of the incredible posts here and look forward to contributing.

-CL

Hello BootsnAll folks!

I signed up so I could use the search function. Smile But I'm working out plans for 1.5 to 2.5 year round-the-world trip, so I'll certainly be asking questions once I've learned enough to know what questions I have!

More than a decade ago I went on an outing to the Yucatan peninsula to explore Mayan ruins with some co-workers. We were working on a video game which was in a Mayan-inspired fantasy setting. That's the only travel I've done... pegging me as: not much of a traveler.

Now, at age 34, I'm planning to bounce around the globe while working on my own software project. I've been itching to leave the company I'm at (only a few more months now!). Afterward, I thought I'd return home to Canada (I'm currently in L.A.)... maybe the far north, to be secluded and work for a few years. Better yet would be a foreign country where I don't know the language and expenses are low... but I can't stay anywhere for long as a visitor... so "aha!", why not hop from country to country?

It took a few days after looking into this country hopping idea before I'd started to find sites like this where a lot of people are doing it! Great advice here, especially for a blank-slate like me.

My situation is a little unusual... I pretty much intend to be a nomadic hermit. I'm not a partier, don't drink (the world's social custom), and won't need to earn money... much of my time will be spent programming... but doing this under the shade of a tree, on a train, or maybe a mountainside. And when transitioning countries it will be like a vacation as I get my bearings and migrate from big city to rural; looking for a place to settle for weeks or months.

Once I've exhausted searching for answers, I'll be posting in hopes some of your experience can guide me! I probably won't have much to offer in return, but perhaps once I'm on my journey... which I plan to begin in January, 2009.

Hi, I'm scrubb. I live in North Carolina with my husband and dog. Although we love living here, we try to squeeze as much travel as possible out of my 2 weeks vacation per year. The big trips in the past few years have been to Brazil, the Galapagos Islands, Belize, Morocco, the Philippines, and England. Currently, we are dreaming of and hoping to take 6 months off, heading for Asia and Australia/New Zealand 2 years from now.
