I'm not scared of much. Heights, sure. Roaches, yes, though they more creep me out than freak me out.
I'm not scared to travel. What is concerning me at this moment is that I'm not worried at all about my upcoming year-long round the world trip. Shouldn't I be a little worried? A little stressed? Shouldn't I have started packing? BootsnAll will be my failsafe between now and departure - I know if I have any questions or if I do start to bug out, the answers will be here in the discussion boards and beyond. Check out my BNA profile and my website (http://www.ephemerratic.com) for more details on me and my trip. Arm chair travelers welcome on Ephemerratic.com! Thanks in advance for the advice you haven't given me yet! Lauren |

Hi! My name is Gary Zaccaria. I think this is a great idea. My son and a friend of his just returned from a 16 day journey through Spain, the Mediterranean, Italy, Croatia and Greece and I'm definitely going to tell them about it. Their trip and stories made me think about travel even more so now I'm getting involved with anything I can to help me reach my travel destinations!
I have some great travel plans. I have visited Russia and Taiwan and both of those trips were amazing. Russia was a pleasure trip and Taiwan was a business trip. I've also traveled to Hawaii and just a little into Mexico. I think my next trip will probably be into the Mayan culture areas and possibly into the Caribbean islands. The world is really a small place now with all of the technologies and I want to experience the "touch" of the cultures. Even though there are regions of conflict, I think that if more people could share cultures, some of the misunderstandings would go away. When you're traveling it feels almost like you're a different person. There's no better way to reduce stress. The world has much to offer and there is much work to do. I applaud all of the people who are out volunteering and helping in the undeveloped regions of the world and doing so much to help those who have been disaster victims in regions like China as well as the ongoing plight of the African people. Serving the world is positive ways is an awesome contribution. After my son returned from his trip I started getting more involved in studying ways to travel and where to go and I think my ultimate destination is going to be Italy. I'm Italian but I need to work on my Italian more. I've had some classes and I am doing Rosetta Stone to finally put it all together. This forum offers some incredible resources for people to make it easier to travel and I wish for everyone to fulfill their travel quest. I hope to get more acquainted with all of you in weeks to come. I traveled to Portland a couple of times and I really enjoyed it particularly my visit to the Grotto. It's just a great place to live. My son's step brother lives in Portland and is working on the music scene! Ciao! Hi,
my names Ed, I'm new here. I've recently been to Thailand and live in Switzerland (so I can just drive around europe when the fancy takes me). If anyone has any questions about Switzerland just ask and I'll do my best to give you an informative answer (it's a nice place to visit - but it aint cheap). If anyone here is interested in Bees I'm also happy to talk about them (and of course honey) - when I was on my trip through italy the other year I was introduced to bee keeping and it's now become a rather consuming hobby (but a good one). |

Hi all! I'm new to bootsnall....though I've been lurking for a while, I thought it was high time I joined and get in on the fun.
I'm from Canada and have traveled throughout North America, parts of Europe (Ireland, UK, France, Greece), the Middle East (Syria, Jordan) and Egypt as well. I'm a bit of a late bloomer-backpacker, started with going to Greece when I was 27, but I've slowly "worked my way up" and my last trip was a solo 6 week trip to Egypt with no real itinerary. Next trip will likely be SE Asia but I just might end up back in the Middle East (Turkey & Lebanon) or North Africa (Morocco, Libya, Tunisia) again. Let the posting begin! Oooh anyone like to see some pics from Egypt can click on over to my flickr page. http://www.flickr.com/photos/applette/ |

My name is Stu. I'm 19 and apparently have no drive or goals in life. I cant be assed with a job, I cant be assed with more school. I really just hate the fact that we're all workin dying slaves to a routine we never wanted to follow, so...
Travel, i wanna travel the world, i wanna see places where people dont go into an office building every day. I wanna see pretty much everything, but mainly I just wanna go into the middle or a real deep forest or jungle an just chill there. Like rey mears only im ten fold cooler, but i would probly die faster. Anyway thats me. |

Hello, my name is Vikki and I have been travelling in Thailand for the past couple of months on my own, which might sound a little daunting to most (a female travelling alone), however I have had a great time thus far. Everyone has been very friendly and the Thai people are very respectful, something that lacks back in England !
The weather has been great, despite being in the 'low season' and I am a frequent internet cafe visitor to catch up on my emails and any news. Good luck to you if you are planning a trip Vikki (born to travel) |

Hello, I'm Elisabeth and I'm new. I'm in my thirties and live in New York City after many years of moving around the world. The last place I lived before moving here was Paris. I guess you could say I'm a recovering traveller, since now I work full time as a writer and editor. Lately I've made short trips to Oregon, Baja, the Caribbean, and Canada, and will probably do all of the above again in the next year. I'm also looking for ideas on where to travel in the U.S. northeast.
As well as travel, I'm interested in talking about reading, writing, travel writing, the media and publishing world, and favorite authors like Graham Greene and Somerset Maugham. I'm a scuba diver and would like to become a better salsa dancer. I was born and raised in Vancouver. I like to meet human beings in person, so would love to meet members who are in NYC or passing through. |

Hello from Vancouver! I'm here for my first visit & so far I'm having a splendid time. (Though I over-extended myself a bit on my first day yesterday.)
There are plenty of members in and around NYC, and there is a rumored meet-up around August 8-10th -- sometimes a decent size group of members get together to, umm, "discuss travel." You can get a feel for what these events entail from these photos from the famous 2006 SnowFest. If those don't scare you too bad, perhaps we can con you into joining us. Welcome to the boards! |

Hm, not too scary, although the narrative progression is a little confusing. Male lap dancer to stuffed animals to subway station? But then I suppose that's just a typical Thursday night for some New Yorkers.
Have a wonderful time in Vancouver. It's a beautiful place to be on the longest day of the year. I look forward to any and all New York meet-ups. |

The Thunder From Downunder Goddess |
I'm almost too embarrassed to post on this thread cos I've been amember for a while and oh what the heck here goes-
Hello, Hi, G'day all, I'm from Melbourne, Victoria which is in God's Own Country - Australia or Oz as we sometimes say out here. My name is Sandra, although I always knew when I was in trouble cos then it was "Sandra Margaret" - the double-barrelled name you know? Anyway I've worked for the Government for the past 15 years and I enjoy my work. I have a good sense of humour, like practical jokes and I love telling jokes and reciting limericks. (The proper ones not the laundered variety!) I play the piano and the chrominica - that's a chromatic harmonica and have a Larry Adler which is like the Rolls Royce of harmonicas. Enjoy music and dancing and learnt ballet, ballroom dancing and Irish dancing. Did acting and singing too and was in the colleges choir and the church choir. I like fast cars and like driving fast with all the windows right down and the stereo blaring I like to feel the wind in my hair it's like being free you know? One day I'd love to own a red MG! Reading is or was a hobby, but now I find myself reading travel stuff about far distant lands and I yearn to backpack through Asia wherever my feet take me and then maybe trek through Eurpoe. I wanna see the US and travel around America and I'd really love to be able to meet all of youse guys. Have been giving thought to selling all my stuff, giving up the lease where I live and just take off but it's a little scary so I'll have to give that one a bit more thought. I love wine, port and Baileys and gin and rum not too keen on whisky. Shiraz is my favourite and I've been on wine tours in every state in my country. Oh yeah, I'm a real patriot and I love my country and reckon it's the best place in the whole danmn world. Australia is The Rock, The Desert Winds, The GBR and ancient rainforests 12 million years old. And we have some of the most beautiful flora and fauna that you'll find nowhere else on earth. I love the outback and I love sitting in the middle of the desert under the Southern Cross in the vast emptiness looking at the stars in the inky blackness of a desert night. Hey I did say I love my country you know? And I love Vegemite!! YAy it's the bestest. Um well that's probably about it should have done this ages ago but kept putting it off (I checked all the pages just to make sure I hadn't posted - didn't wna get myself in stsrife you know?) Oh yeah, one more thing, I'm a lousy tyoist and make a lotta mistakes which can get me into trouble, and I havbe an awful of making faux pas - sooo embarrassing you know? But hey! life is for living ohyeah, just remembered, I er sometimes break into song or dance out in public - quite shocks some people, but I really like doing that "If I was a rich man" complete with all the asrms out, finger clicking and chest shaking. I know all the words to "the Brady Bunch", and all the words to "Gilligan's Island" and most of "The Adams Family." Oh yeah, and I love quoting lines from movies. Sometimes when answering the phone, I say, "Divorced. broke and sloppy, may I help you?" - that's from "The Odd Couple", or "don't forget the canoli" the Godfather and my favourite of all time. "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn." And I reckon I've yacked on too much so I'd better stop right now. Anyway, I love being a member of BnA and all t he other Boots are all real nice people and you're all a friendly buncha people. Cheers. |

Knows What a Schengen Visa Is |
I have a post way back on page two, posted when I was 19, which is all very cringeworthy.
Since then i've... been to Russia by myself, Latvia and Lithuania. Just the capitals and main cities though but still a scary adventure for me. In the middle of winter. Was all very interesting. Applied twice and finally got it! I'm an intern in NYC. The only intern out of 300 without a degree.... I absolutely hate hate hate the job [I had a job with lots of responsiblity in a dynamic atmosphere in London] and now I file in a silent office full of socially inept mutes which has gotten me down a lot. Filing would be fine if there was anyone here who was the least bit social/able to converse. But... that's okay because I'm in NYC and have made some good friends here. When the internship finishes in September [which I'm looking forward to, can you tell?] I'll be heading to Buenos Aires for a 3 month "jaunt". Not sure where I'm going yet. All I can concentrate on is saving. I have $30 to last me the next 10 days.... Planning on CouchSurfing my way around the West of SA, wherever possible [only in the cities, right?], and doing lots of trekking. I've deluded myself into thinking I loved living London and didn't want to leave. So am excited to see what's in store for me there. There are a few people there I can't wait to see and a whole city to capture! ______________ Mark: Frosties are just cornflakes for people who can't face the real world. Jeremy: Yeah, well, Crunchy Nut Cornflakes are just Frosties for w*nkers. |

Didn't know this was here and thoughts I'd intro myself. I'm Sharron. I am always looking for a good travel partner but mainly run into people who like the thoughts of travel but not the execution. So I tend to go by myself. A lot. Which is good as I'd rather be alone that with someone I am not compatible with.
As far as a job, I'm a writer for Harlequin/Silhouette and have my sixth book coming out in Sept. I hope to be able to quit the day job (contractor for an aerospace company) with the next book contract. A lot of my travel experience end up in my books in some form or fashion, and my research inspires me to travel to new places. I feel incredibly lucky that I have a job I love (the writing part) and that allows me to work anywhere in the world. Yay! Sharron The only difference between a rut and a grave is their dimensions. Hello!
I'm Tatiana, 23, graphic designer. I just graduated from college and I'm trying to figure out how and where to go now. My family is Russian, we moved to the US when I was only 6 and I've never moved outside of Atlanta since then. I speak Russian near-fluently along with beginner/intermediate French. A bit of Spanish, too. I took a lot of local roadtrips as a kid but my parents have always been hermits afraid of me exploring international travel. I enjoy it, though. I've been to France, Spain, Israel, and the Dominican Republic. Israel and Spain were perhaps my two favorite experiences... Spain for the beauty of Andalusia, Israel for the stunning history and the natural beauty. |

Hi
I'm Eva, I'm a college student from Louisiana (LSU). I've travelled a lot, all over Europe and the Caribbean mostly, but only short term. I've never done a trip longer than a month, but when I graduate, I want to take a year off and travel Central and South America. I've been to India before, and I liked it, but by far my favorite trip I ever did was a two week Guatemala/Belize trip the summer before my senior year in high school. I didn't feel like I even scratched the surface in that time, though, so I really want to give the region more time. I am also a USSA certified sailing instructor, so I'm hoping that I might be able to teach some along the coast there. |

Hi Everyone,
Like to say hello from Gloucestershire UK. This is a lovely wooded part of the UK with the Cotswold Edge running sharply down to the Severn Valley, then the Forest of Dean and Malverns pick up on the other side. The Severn itself is a muddy old river famous for the Severn Bore, a wave coming up stream at high tides controlled by the phases of the moon. Why I love this area is the mature trees and the feeling that this area stands on its own, apart from any of the big cities. The biggest places in Gloucestershire are Gloucester and Cheltenham, which are small compared with other UK cities. It is a great area for walking or cycling, with gently rolling hills and woods and pastures. I have spent some time exploring Europe, and drove through France, Belgium/Germany through the Black Forest to the Rhine Falls and then on into Switzerland. Over the pass into the Italian Lakes area then down past Genova past the Cinque Terre to Firenze (Florence). Back from there into France and through the Massif Central back towards Northern France. Absolutely loved it. Able to always find plenty of camp sites and nice food. Anyway, hi to everyone. Neil I love the countyside - let's keep it tidy! |
