Hey everyone,

I'm taking an interline flight from Dublin to NYC (it goes through London), but I think I might have a problem. Aer Lingus, which I'm using for the first leg of the trip, says on their website that they will "through check" my baggage for Virgin Atlantic upon presentation of an interline itinerary, but I'm not sure what exactly that means and the airlines haven't gotten back to me yet. I'm moving back home from school for the summer, so I'm definitely going to need more than the 44 pounds of luggage that Aer Lingus provides for a short haul flight; for a long haul flight, Aer Lingus allows 80 and Virgin Atlantic allows 100 pounds.

So my question is this: does through checking mean that I'll be able to use the baggage allowance for my longer flight? Thanks for any insight you might have!

Probably not. Aer Lingus will check your bags all the way through when you show them your VA ticket at check-in, but they will most likely charge you an excess bag fee of some sort.

Yes, through checking only means Aer Lingus will transfer your checked baggage in London to Virgin Atlantic without you having to handle it.

If you have ONE ticket, meaning both the Aer Lingus AND the Virgin Atlantic flights are a SINGLE ticket (two flight coupons), then the higher luggage restrictions for the USA applies.
