I thought I was ready for whatever BCN had to throw at me. Yesterday at the Ramblas I even noticed this gypsy following me (rather obvious at that, stopping whenever I stopped, looking away if I turned his way, etc) - went back to him and told him to stop following me. I was so so on top of this whole pickpocketing thing going on in Barcelona.

Or so I thought. While sitting on the benches on the squiggly bridge at the bottom of the Ramblas, I chatted up this Spanish chica and foolish enough I had my backpack on the outside side while I was facing the girl. I saw a couple of people walking by from the corner of my eye, but they seemed tourists too, so I paid no heed (plus I was talking to a chica). It was windy, so I heard my bag drag a bit, but paid no attention. After a bit, I looked for my bag, and it was gone. The 'swoosh' was probably when the burglar swiped my bag.

Unbe'f'liveable. Luckily I had taken my Nikon SLR camera and was holding to it (to impress the chica - ok, j/k). Luckily I wasnt foolish enough to pack my laptop in my bag (or, if I had, I may have been more careful with it). And the passport was in my pants pockets. Wallet in the front pocket. So, nothing big lost that I can remember, except my phone charger, a couple of fridge magnet souvenirs, and my headphones. And of course, the backpack. I can live with that.

Did end up spending a few hours walking down the beach with the chica though.

Let this be a warning for anyone going that way. When you least expect it and you drop your guard...

Sorry to hear about that man, but like you said it could've been worse I'm sure. Good luck with the chick, and the rest of the trip.

I had my daypack stolen at BCN train station. It is a horrible feeling, especially since I had just bought some great books.

Sorry to hear it Rogerio. Stolen gear is like having a car accident. Nobody thinks its going to happen to them and then you're a lot more careful afterwards.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your Barcelona stay. I met a girl on the beach in Barcelona too. Have fun.

Barcelona's a great place, but I once met a guy at the train station who had been robbed three times in two days! When I met him, he was bare-foot - they robbed his trainers, sandals, and all his socks, his wallet, day-pack, and god knows what else. He had a huge grin on his face the whole time, so I gave him a pair of socks, and wished him good luck trying to get back to London with no money or anything.

Hey on a brighter subject, what you been doing there? Travellers bar in gotico? Park gruell yet?
Post some pics on the net when you get a chance, get some of the human statues.

Monteserrat is simple stunning, but if you go bring your walking schools and take one of the trails away from the tourist trap monestary.

I'm determined to go back and visit all the crosses all over the mountains.
