I am looking for a spring break destination for 2009. I have a 14 year-old daughter who enjoys history and is generally a good sport when it comes to travel. We only have a week. Would mainland Greece be a good destination? I would like to visit the Greek Islands but I think that a week would not be sufficient. Would Athens and surrounding area be a good trip? Any other suggestions?

The Greek Islands aren't exactly what I'd call a 'cultural trip'. Mainland Greece on the other hand offers a lot from that perspective. However, a week is not much time, so yes, I'd just stick to Athens and surroundings.

I agree with elAdi on this one.. a week is a perfect amount of time to spend in Athens/surrounding areas.. and if your daughter likes history she'll love it. I spent a lot of time in Athens and think it's a fantastic city-- the metro is easy to get around on, the food is delicious, and there is definitely plenty to do. Good luck!
