Hi
I have planned a RTW trip to leave in August for Canada (then California, Hawaii, Japan, SE Asia) but I was wondering if it would be better to go in Seotember because of how bust Canada will be. Does it really matter?
I'd rather go earlier because not sure whether I am going to be back for Xmas or not....

I would suggest August. That way you'll still get the decent weather.

Also, I see from other posts of yours that you are planning to hit the SF area. Our best weather generally happens at the end of August and through September. Any later and you are risking gloominess. So, for that reason as well, I recommend August.

That gives you plenty of time should you choose to come home for Xmas.

It would depend on how long & where you were going in Canada as September weather is nice but after mid October the days get shorter & the nights colder.

Also I believe the RTW fares from the UK drop in September.

Make your decision based on itinerary & finances.

Was planning on a month.
4 days in Toronto plus Niagara then 1 month in British Columbia, Vancouver, and Alberta.

It's more from the point of view of whether I can get hostel accommodation at these times of year (particularly August).

Looking okay:

Anything I could add to the end og this after Delhi that would be worthwhile (not Europe).

Personally I would plan for the first week in September as school starts on the 2nd so the main tourist season is over but the weather still nice.
