Hey all, I have read previous threads on whether to travel with a guitar or not but none seem very recent. I was thinking of taking either my uke or a kids guitar (b/c it is small) on the road so I don't get rusty...plus it will give me something to do on a rainy day, etc
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
To give you an idea, my husband and I are both packed up in backpacks that we can carry on the plane so not sure if this will mess up my mojo with the flight attendants....
P.S. I am pretty decent at both guitar and uke and would love to get better with all the time I have on the road

I've seen uke's, and they're cool. They also are small and packable.

I've also seen people buy a travel guitar, one made of materials a little safer than brittle wood, or ones that aren't made for the concert circuit. They treat their guitars like a baby, their entire trip is about being a guitar player travelling.

Thats kind of cool too.

Not sure if I have pissed people off or am starting very un-interesting discussions, but since I only received 1 response to my question, I decided on my own and am now giving my 2 cents to future travelers that have the same question and may not get any advice. I have spent the last week going to every music store possible and playing every 1/2 size guitar known to man (and some brands not known to man), ranging from nylon strings to steel strings. In the end, I have decided to travel with a 1/2 size yamaha JR1 guitar....bigger than the uke? yes...but not much bigger than the backpack I am carrying on...also I have read about 10 pages of reviews on this guitar and have found many other people that have traveled with it and have carried it on and stored it in an overhead compartment.
Note: change the strings on this guitar as soon as you get it...I chose Elixir due to their reliability. Don't forget a pick and a tuner (esp. if you are tune deaf like me!)!
Hope this helps everyone like myself that loves to play but is hesitant!
