This is it - we're off!! We actually fly out on Sunday, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get back here tomorrow with all the last minute preparations, so I thought I'd say goodbye tonight.

For those of you who don't know - we are taking off to ride our bikes from Alaska to Argentina. It's just the four of us - me, my husband, and our 10-year-old twin boys. You can read about our journey at www.familyonbikes.org

I'm really, really, really nervous about getting on the plane - that tandem box is so big! I've spent hours and hours on the phone talking with travel agents and the airline customer service reps and they assure me the bike can go on - but I won't believe it until it's actually on there. And we've also got a whole bucketful of flights to get up there, so I hope nothing gets lost or damaged in transit.

Anyway, if you would send up prayers and good thoughts on Sunday and Monday while we're in transit, I'd really appreciate it!

Once we leave here, we will be totally out of contact with the world until we arrive in Fairbanks around the last week in June. We'll post to our blog to let people know we've arrived as soon as we arrive. You can follow along with us at www.familyonbikes.org/blog

Happy Trails!!

I have to say...that while not my style, I REALLY REALLY respect what you guys are doing! It rocks. I've been a passive reader of your website, and will continue to read...so please, for me and the other readers, keep us updated. Is there an RSS feed on the site? (no need to answer, I will look for myself)

I suck at leaving comments on sites/blogs that I read, so just know that people (at least me) are reading and enjoying what you are doing.

I have been following your blog - it is one of only 2 blogs in my RSS - and have been blown away. What you guys are doing is amazing. Not only is it amazing in what you guys are doing, but you have been doing a really good job in capturing the reactions of others, and their reactions are equally amazing.

Thank you for sharing with us your stories of the kindness and generosity of strangers - it rekindles a little bit of faith in a stormy and closed off society. I often lament how so many people seem to walk around with their heads down, afraid to make eye contact with strangers, with this 'every man for himself' mentality. Your stories remind me that this isn't as much the case as we sometimes think it is.

Whether as travellers or as hosts, I think that sharing our homes, and these tiny little parts of our lives with people we didn't previously know, helps build a much stronger community. You and your family are an inspiration.

Thanks sweetie!! The people we meet are very definitely the highlight of our journey. Yes - I really enjoy the beautiful sights we see and all that. But it's the people who make the journey.

Traveling by bike like this has convinced me more than ever that people are GOOD. Not like what we see on the nightly news.
