I confess, for the last few trips I've made to abroad I've left most of the "office clothing" clothing at home. I packed grungy things that would help me blend in a bit walking down the street in Bangkok or Borneo. It worked - I didn't feel quite so obviously touristy - but I also felt a little weird about it.

Wasn't I supposed to be packing freshly-ironed white linen slacks and a Panama hat instead of my faded Thai fisherman's pants and a "Bob Marley" cap? Wasn't I supposed to be living off one (at the most) pair of flip-flops instead of leather "Penny Loafers"?

Sometimes I want to think that the natives in the city (that I'm visiting) are eyeing my "Che" t-shirt with envy, just as I'm eyeing their girlfriend.

With all that behind me, I'm glad to have read Leighs Traveler's Packing List For Asia, another place I'd want to pack my "partying" clothes for. It makes me want to head back to Vien Viang, Tevas in my bag.

If you're packing to go the "backpacker circuit", how do you pack?

Ha, ha.

As long as it stays near the "Packing for the City" thread this one will make sense.

I think I'm one of the weird ones when it comes to packing for travel I wear the same things on trips I do at home. Usually kahki pants, t-shirts, and sport shirts. I don't have a travel wardrobe and weaar the same things in the bush and in the city.

I know everyone says that jeans are too heavy...but I live in my jeans at home and I live in my jeans abroad. I dont care if it takes up some extra space, I'm happy to lug it. But superlightweight pants with the fiber blend that wicks the moisture away...well I think I have a pair of light cargo things from old navy that I'll take with me...but for the most part it's the same stuff I wear around Seattle. After all, comfort is key.
