Holds PhD in Packing
Posted
Hi, i have just returned from backpacking in Thailand. I have been once before, however this time round was an very different experience.

I met a Nordic girl who works in BKK two days into my trip and we were both smitten. Yes i know i sound like a soppy git, but believe me there was relationship potential threre. Now that i am in the UK and she is BKK we both feel as though there is no point in continuing the relationship. Both really gutted. I basically spent most of my time with her and i honestly beleive i could not have had a better travelling experience than the one i have just returned from.

Anyway, we will try to keep in contact. However i have her Thai mobile number. Does anyone here know how i could ring the number from the UK? Moreover is there some prefix code of somesort i need to enter before i enter the whole number or something?

Thanks

Oh dude, i am looking for cheap flights already........had my heart broken into a million pieces.

I just hope she stays in touch. I had to basically nearly resort to kicking some western guys asses to fend them off her when she was with me. No respect for women.

btw, i met a stonemason from Texas in Thailand, , he was in his fifties and had just spent a year travelling in China. I also introduced him to Chang Beer. He had been there for a week and never touched the stuff. He also knows the guys from Metallica and he helped build pammys and Kid Rocks 10 million dollar mansion.....very cool dude......he was quite keen on the massage pamphlets the Tuk-Tuk drivers were waving about....

Have you looked for one of those service where you prepay for a certain amount of SMS that you can send from you computer to her mobile? If you can get online with your mobile phone, you can also send it from there. Just be sure that Thailand, and the particular mobile company that she's using is on the list. I have had one service that claims to be free, that I have only to sign up, but I ended up getting junk SMS, and the worst part, my sms to China was not being received. So check before paying for anything.

HOpe you find a good solution!

On the cheap cheap you can call her using Skype VoIP. Check out this thread for a good explanation if you're not familiar with it.

Skype is the way forward...

I use it all the times for calling cell phones abroard and it rocks...

Get yourself a good headset and a fast internet connection and you are away.

Long distance romances suck...but saying that I have managed to keep one going for the last 7 years...so if I can...anyone can..

good luck

i use skype to talk to my family in singapore and boyfriend in israel (i am currently working in china). can't say the quality is always good but it is definitely affordable since it costs next to nothing.
alternatively, most service providers will have a website to send free sms to their subscribers. that being said, u'll have to give up on hearing her voice if you rely on sms or other chat services (yahoo, msn, etc).
