Tonight I was doing some extensive research so as to plan out my rtw route. So far what I have come up with is to get a plane ticket leaving from Clevland or New York to Reykjavik then to london. Then use a eurail pass and bum around through as many European countries as I can for 3 months. I want to see spain, prague, paris, italy, etc or as much as I can within 3 months and try to spend a week in each country so that would be 12 countries in 3 months. Then at the end of 3 months return to london and travel overland to hanoi via train following this route it will take me from london into moscow and to beijing via mongolia. From beijing I can travel to shanghai, and then to Hanoi to Vientiane. From there fly to bangkok. Then fly to hong kong, then honolulu to San diego and then make my way back to ohio.
The rtw ticket came out to be between $1444.00 - $1732.00 on the trip planner program. The eurail pass is $1075 I turn 25 this may hopefully I will be able to make this trip before I am 26 and I can qualify for a youth eurail pass. The trains will probably run about $520.00 according to the website that I was looking at. So that is about $3400 in transportation. I am planning on having at least $10- $12,000 saved for my trip. So does this sound feasible on my budget? Am I missing anything or any real good places. Would I be better foregoing the RTW ticket? If anyone has any suggestions please speak up.

Lost in Place

The only thing I would say is, I was in Czech Republic for about a week a year past October and it was not enough time to see everything! And if you think about it, Czech Republic is quite a small place and then you get places like Spain, Italy and France which are all quite big. Personally I don't think a week would be long enough in each country if you wanted to see everything.

That's just a suggestion - but I do think it sounds brilliant!!

Sounds like you are going to be on an awesome trip. I agree with Nat that one week per country in Europe might be rushing things a bit. This of course, totally depends on the person and you won't know how you feel about it until you've done some travelling. For myself though, I know that it takes at least a few days in a country before I really get a feel for how everything works and I hate having just gotten the hang of things and having to move on to somewhere else where I need to start learning everything again. At the least, I'd recommend leaving yourself enough flexibility so that you can decide to stay in some coutries for longer or shorter stays depending on what you want to do when you get there.

Let me know when you get to San Diego - we can swap travel stories.

To sound off with Jillian and Naty Kim, a week per country in Europe is a bit sparce. Maybe a week and a half at least. But! when you go on a RTW it's pretty likely you're not going to see everything in every country you go to. And with a continent as accessible as Europe, and one that has such a bad rate agains the dollar, it's pretty feasible that you might return some time later in life to travel more extensively in the region. So...I'd say a bit more Europe, and maybe a bit less Asia (or maybe even some of the sub-continent?)

Wookie So far I have $1200 saved towards the trip. Saving isn't easy for sure. Yeah after giving the trip more thought 1 weekk per country is not enough at all. To actually enjoy my trip I will have to see less countries I think. Also it was brought to my attention that Why would I start in london and then return to london just to go to russia. I can obiously catch a train elswhere a bit further east and not back track.

Once in Europe your cash wil lgo very fast. If you are in the south I wouold highly recommend spending some time in Morocco. Get away from tangier and getinto the mountains, it's a hard traveling country but very worth a vist and stop.
