I JUST BOOKED A FLIGHT TO POLAND FOR $82!!!!!!!!

Sorry, this turned into a very long post, but I'm excited, lol. I am applying for a volunteer job teaching English in Zakopane, Poland for a week between ending work (high school) and driving to Nashville for the summer. But, even if I get accepted, I could only go if I could use my FF miles for the flight. I've been on the phone with United about 100 times in the last 3 days because I struggling to find FF seats available the dates/location I wanted. Last night I was sooooo bummed out because I didn't think it would work out. This morning I called, planning to keep them on the phone forever until I found a flight from Boston to pretty much any city in Europe on the dates I wanted. Not only did I get A flight, I got the one I wanted in the first place!!! It's not perfect, of course, two stops on the way over... direct home, but direct to NYC (I live in Boston), but for $82 I'll take it!!

To change the dates is free, or to just take the miles back is $100. So, pretty much, if I get accepted to the teaching program, I'm going to Poland in June. If I don't get accepted, I'm going to Poland some time later in the year!

All of this is completely insane because I'm not sure I'm over my flying issues and I'm nervous about flying to NASHVILLE next month, nevermind half way around the world. BUT, thanks to you all here, I am 100% determined to not become New England-bound by my fears, like several of my family members have. I will NOT let this stupid claustrophia thing take over my life, dammit.

Tracy Ann - it is such a good deal you have to go!

I have heard of a very cheap bus from NYC to Boston - Fen Wa? - although that one apparently catches on fire from time to time, so take another one Smile

Enjoy your trip.

(Edit: about an hour later, I realized how mean it sounds to joke about this - to Tracy Ann and in general. Fortunately Tracy Ann is a nice person and was cool with it when I told her I'm sorry.)

Ha, yeah, it does tend to catch on fire. And I'm not a fan of being in Chinatown with my luggage in the middle of the night in either city, lol. Greyhound is just as cheap, and safer.

I'm actually going to try to crash with a friend in NYC for the night and then convince someone to drive my pre-packed car down to NYC because I'm driving to Nashville as soon as I get back. If I can get someone to drive my car down and bus/train it back himself, then I'm already a few hours closer to Nashville! Smile I know a couple people that regularly commute to NYC for work, so hopefully I can swing it Smile

Great to hear. You sound suitably excited. Now you have a couple of trips to look forward to.
How many miles do you need to turn in for a trip to Europe?

Ha, I may just do that on the way home. Unfortunately, I question my ability to change planes/go through customs multiple times on the way there while doped up, lol.

I do hope that's sarcasm hidden in there... cuz you were one of the people I was thinking of, lol.

With United or Star Alliance members, Economy class, subject to blackout dates = 50,000. No blackout dates and/or class upgrade will bump you up to 90,000-180,000. I do wish I had 90,000 so I could have gotten business class, but such is life.

Congrats!

Make sure you learn a few phrases in Polish before you go - I found so far that the smaller cities have very very little english speakers. Good luck!

For United...
I used 50K for my upcoming trip to Spain. Last year, for Italy, I had to use 80K for a coach seat (there were no more saver seats available). For a business class "saver" ticket, it is 80K to Europe, I believe. While I have the miles, there were none of those available for meFrown

Congrats Tracy.
