I actually saw the tail end of a roague wave when I was a kid. I was on land looking out at the water and you could see much larger waves heading to shore. We all moved back (WAY BAY) and then you could see a really big wave coming in. It was pretty massive but was probably only a fraction of what it had been on the open seas.

I'm pretty sure it was one of these waves that took down the Ocean Ranger Oil platform in Newfoundland. That killed alot of people.
