Hey everyone!

So, I’m in Guatemala right now and I found out last week that my mother has to put the wedding off for a year.

I have no reason to come back to Canada now.

That is good (as I didn’t really want to come back), but since I wasn’t planning on this I didn’t renew my passport before I left (because I would have had enough time to last me until September).

Now I have decided to fly from South America to New Zealand but my five years on my Canadian passport is up in Feb. of 2006.

So, I want to know if I can get a new passport while I’m abroad and if I can get a working holiday visa without coming back home.

I need a little help, please!

To renew the passport now, you will have to visit the Canada Embassy in Guatemala City.

And here is their website.

The only problem I can imagine is that they take longer to make your passport than you are planning to spend in Guatemala. But if you tell your embassy where you will be next they should be able to send it there for you and give you a temporary passport in the mean time. (don't forget the pics.)

For exaple (not Canadian but they've go to be able to handle this too): I renewed my German passport at the embassy in Los Angeles in August 1999, flew to Vienna in September. Since they send everything back home for processing it would take too long so I got a temporary passport (good for 1 yr only) and they just sent my new regular passport straight to Vienna where I picked it up in October.

Nice, Joe.

Don't forget about the people who need to sign off on it for you. Did you leave any recent passport pictures with your parents? I'm pretty sure the "signing the back of the picture" requirement still exists, which makes it slightly more challenging to get it done abroad.
