These guys are currently attempting to drive through 48 states in the US in 5 days or less. While it certainly is quite the Road Trip, I don't think it is something that I would want to attempt. I would just have to stop too often due to:
1. My walnut sized bladder. 2. The necessity of taking a photograph. This made me wonder, though, about other records available for travelers to break. After looking in the source for these things, I've concluded that I would be most interested in attempting to break the record for the longest driven journey, which at this moment, is 617,359 miles driven through 156 countries. The others, though? Not so much. Although, I can see the potential for glory in earning the title for the Longest Motorcycle Ride Through a Tunnel of Fire. Still, I like my eyebrows where they are -- currently on my face. And you? Are you a potential record breaker? _____________________________________________________________ 'We're going to pack our toothbrushes. That's what we're going to do.' - Tony Soprano |

I don't think I'd ever shoot for one. I just couldn't be bothered! :P

I used to want to break the record written about in Road Fever -- Tierra del Fuego to Prudhoe Bay in 23 1/2 days, but now I simply can't stand being in a car for more than a few hours.

We're working on it!! I would never want to break a speed record - the fastest person to drive somewhere or something like that. I like to play too much!! Seriously, the best part of traveling on bikes is that we get to stop and play all the time. If we were trying to ride 20,000 miles as fast as we can, we would be riding all the time - and that wouldn't be fun.
We are, however, working on breaking the world record for the YOUNGEST person to pedal the Pan-American Highway. We'll take 2 1/2 years to do it though! |

That's a pretty badass idea... everyone loves a roadtrip so why not think out of the box even though it seems silly at first? I always loved watching Cannonball Run and the reason they did those races back in the 70s was for the heck of it. I think the record stands at 32 hours or so from NY to CA.

No. I'm not into records. I'm into quality as opposed to quantity. How can you really see places? You can't.

I agree with Cherie. Sure you'll have broken a record but will you really have seen anything, let alone experienced something?

Yes, I would certainly attempt to break one, if I found the opportunity. After checking the link that our host provided, I have to say that I'm totally intrigued by the ATV record as a matter of fact. I'm envious of the Schmids' longest driven journey--except that I would have used a Jeep Cherokee

My own record in speed travel that I'm not going to break - can't see any reason why:
- around the world in 2 weeks - 17 flights - visited 5 countries: USA (LA), NZ (4 cities), the Philippines (2 cities), Hongkong, Taiwan (2 cities) - 3 stopovers (airport only) - London, Sydney, Mumbai __________________________ gdzie mnie wiatr poniesie |

I don't think these guys took the trip to see places, they did it just to see if it could be done, and they did it.

I once had semi-serious discussions with some friends of driving from Barrow, Alaska to Key West Florida in under 100 hours, which I think is the record.
There is a lot of planning you have to do to pull something like that off. One screw up and it is over. |
