Well, not quite, but does anyone know of any cheap or free travel on freight or other transatlantic ships? Work would be considered. I heard that freight ships can take a small number of human passengers and I imagine it might be interesting and affordable.

Thanks much!

Don't know about interesting, but as Slip indicates they are not so cheap either.
If you find out what the seasons are for particular cruise boat zones, you could latch onto a relocation cruise - I was looking at one from F.Lauderdale that would take about 18 days from there via a few Caribbean and Medittereanean ports to I think it was Genoa was destination, with an Italian Line, and that was early May, and I'd suspect returns would be made sometime about October before Med storms kick in and Gulf hurricanes have gone.

A twin share inside cabin was going to work out at $50/d which is not too bad when you consider that is all meals.
It was being sourced through one of those vacation auction places, and they could be well worth a look, but you probably need a buddy -there's a branch for that and maybe you can plan something for next year.
Another site worth looking at is www.7knots.com.au

Thanks much GoNorth and Slip, sorry about very late reply - life whipped me off somewhere - not on a cruise ship though. I will be checking this out. Again thanks!

Folks that cruise sailboats around the world, the rich ones that carry insurance... have a need for extra crew members when crossing oceans.

Do some checking around, there are a fair number of "crew wanted" websites.

That and delivery captains needed to move a boat... (Might even make some money.)
