200 years after Nelson's victory, the world's navies celebrate Trafalgar

More than 100 warships from 35 nations will crowd the Solent next Tuesday in a spectacular display of naval power marking the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. The Fleet Review, attended by the Queen, will be the first since the Silver Jubilee of 1977.

Some 25,000 sailors from countries as diverse as Latvia and South Korea will arrive in Portsmouth over the next five days in preparation for the review, which will include substantial contributions from the "losing" nations of France and Spain.

Both countries are sending aircraft carriers - the nuclear-powered Charles de Gaulle being the largest warship present.

The rest of the story...

StreetWars is a 3 week long, 24/7, watergun assassination tournament that has already taken place in New York City, Vancouver, Vienna, San Francisco and is now coming to Los Angeles.

At the start of the game you will receive a manila envelope containing the following:

* A picture of your intended target(s)
* The home address of your intended target(s)
* The work address of your intended target(s)
* The name of your intended target(s)
* Contact information of your intended target(s)

Upon receipt of these items, your (or your team's) mission is to find and kill (by way of water gun, water balloon or super soaker) your target(s).

You can hunt your target down any way you see fit; you can pose as a delivery person and jack them when they open the door, disguise yourself and take them out on the street, etc.

If you are successful in your assassination attempt, the person you killed will give you their envelope and the person they were supposed to kill becomes your new target. This continues until you work yourself through all the players and retrieve the envelope with your (or your team's) picture(s) and name(s). Then you win. Cash…but first live in fear.

If you are interested in really spectacular photography, this exhibit by the co-founder of Magnum looks like a really good reason to visit Washington D.C.

It runs from March 18 - June 4th, at The Corcoran Gallery of Art.

Sadly, I have to protect the company interests and answer queries about backpacks, tent poles and goosedown that afternoon. But I was thinking that *you* could represent BootsnAll on the conga line.

"Take time to enjoy life: Be a Greek!"

Okay, so I'm Hungarian, but you can bet I'll show up at the L.A. Greek Fest at Saint Sophia Cathedral near the corner of Pico and Normandie iin Los Angeles between Friday, September 8, and Sunday, September 10, 2006.

The church tour is fabulous. (Did you know that Spyros Skouras of 20th Century Fox diverted money from his studio to build this, the most beautiful church in Southern California?) The food is great. The music and dancing are terrific.

Learn all about the Byzantine-Latino Quarter.

The Mekong province of An Giang will hold its annual bull race at the Ta Miet Pagoda in Tri Ton District on September 21-22.

The event is part of the larger Dolta festival held by the Khmer people. Each race involves two pairs of oxen controlled by a rider who competes on muddy and slippery paddy fields that form the 100m long and 60m wide racetrack. The event is open to riders and bulls from An Giang as well as other nearby Mekong provinces of Viet Nam and Takeo Province in Cambodia.

The An Giang Tourism Department, the organiser of the event, said 90 pairs of oxen have so far registered to join this year’s race.
