Well friday (28-11-03) was my last day at work, i handed my notice in two weeks earlier and the time was gone before i knew it, this was a job that i loved and had been very happy doing for the past 7 years and i'm not ashamed to say that a tear or two was shed....but as i keep telling myself "who dares wins" and all that..

..did anyone else find it hard to leave their job for longterm travel?

Congratulations Bello. My wife and I are quitting our Jobs end of this year and going away for 7 months. I personally would not waste a tear on my job but my wife is a little sad about it. I admire your courage to quit after 7 years, we need more people like you.

Have fun, the best times are when you are free

My wife and I are also about to quit our job and leave for 9-12 months. We both love our jobs, like our co-workers, and are compensated well.

Given all of that, it still seems a small sacrifice to take the trip of a lifetime. We'll be working for the next 30 years, but only have a relatively small window to travel like this until we retire. We have rented out our home, and are out of here in February.

Live the dream!

Congratulations Bello!

I wouldnt go as far as sheding a tear for a job, but good for you! The way I see this whole thing is, it doesnt matter how much you might enjoy your job or how happy you think you are at your job, you are always being exploited, no matter what you do. I dont know exactly if it is a cultural thing, but I was taught since very little to never be loyal to any company. I see plenty of Americans here who are willing to do whatever the company asks them to do, I am totally against this way of thinking..and this corporate culture really sickens me..makes me want to throw up..anyways..go on your trip, enjoy it and dont stress over work, you will find something better when u come back. Smile

I might just make a big batch of pot muffins on my last day(J/K)!! Costco would be a much more relaxing store though.

Luke, I couldn't agree more with you on this one. After seventeen years in the so called caring profession my loyalties have dried up. I am burnt out, but hey, my life is just about to change.
Today I handed in my notice and will be on my travels sometime in Feb.

Yep. I've cried whenever I've left places, even when I haven't been happy where I've been overall. It's still sad to leave the friends you've made, but it's all good...

Good for you for taking the risk and broadening your horizons. It'll be great.
