Yes, I realize that it is early, but it is never too early to dream, is it?

While I still have not completely unpacked from my overseas trip in January, I am back at my desk already dreaming of travel again. Since my income tax refund just arrived, I wanted to devote a chunk of it to travel (before I spend it on cigars and cheap gin).
I have just bought a ticket to Bogota for next January.

Forget about where you are going in 2007, that is a separate topic.

Where are you going in 2008?

On my shortlist of places I want to go, but won't be going this year:
- If I can talk the wife into it, go to China again (after the olympics, maybe)
- Kerala, India
- If we can afford to do a long trip again, would like to spend some time in Latin America. Where, who knows?

Wow, static, you really are thinking ahead. (Good for you on the Bogota ticket, BTW.) Personally, I'd like to get to Asia at some point, not having been yet. I don't think this is my year, so I'm hoping for 2008 now...

I'll be in the middle of my WHV trip to new zealand. I'll be in NZ through July at least, then I want to head to Beijing for the 2008 Olympics!

wow, Static - you've already filed taxes? 2006, or are you just catching up? Razz

We are saving up to buy a house, so that's pretty much our planning at the moment, but if we can manage it, if we can squeak a little extra in, we would really like to hit the Galapagos and Ecuador next. I think it could happen in 2008. 2007 is pretty much a bust, as I'm not even earning vacation time yet (no such thing as a temp...)

My daughter and I have been talking about going to Scotland for about 5 years now, and have finally decided to head there next year. I have enough FF miles for one ticket and we'll split the cost of the second.

Unfortunately, she teaches Spanish at a magnet school so we will have to wait till the summer to go if we go for 2 weeks (or go for one week during spring break). I've never traveled overseas in the summer before and I'm a little nervous about the crowds. I suppose, though, if you're going to travel someplace in the summer, it's best to pick a place that's in the north...

We get one free pair of roundtrip tickets for our R&R next year. We can choose from anyone in the U.S. or Rome. I think we're probably going to do either Hawaii or Alaska. Rome would be awesome and we'll probably go there too at some point, but since we'll be in Kyiv, the tickets to the U.S. are more valuable.

Holy crap Joe. I'm still on the trip of a life time and now you forced me to think about next year.

I imagine my travel plans will be much more low key than this year... somewhat like 2006, maybe a few trips in the US while saving again for bigger dreams.

If I were to leave the US in 2008 I imagine it would be Mexico, Central America, South America or Eastern Europe.

Maybe Peru? Brazil? Cruise to the Caymans? Belize? Romania? Hungary?

Can safely say Africa and Asia will be off the list.

Lets talk 2009 and 2010? Smile

Wow...2008. I still haven't made all my travel plans for this year. I hope to spend some time at the Olympics in Beijing in 2008. I would also love to take a few months and travel all around SE Asia. Maybe base myself somewhere in Thailand and take some trips to Cambodia, Lao, Vietnam, Myanmar and Malaysia. I have been to Thailand, Myanmar and Lao before, but there are lots of places that I haven't been to.

I'll probably be heading home and looking for a job sometime in 2008 after spending more than two years traveling through Latin America.

By the way Static, this is OT but I know getting a tax refund sounds great but you're just giving the government an interest-free loan. Optimally you want to pay a bit of money each year. That way you'll actually save more for your next trip.

2008?? My life is in such a state of flux that it is really hard to say. My most recent trips have been last minute deals and it will probably continue that way for a while. But I can think in broad terms I guess. I think Asia will have to be on the top of the goal list. If I don't make it to Africa in 2007 it will be a must in 2008. It will probably be on the list anyway. There are so many places in Africa that I want to see.

I am hoping that by 2008 I will be more established in my new job as a travel director and actually get some good international assignments instead of going to Orlando, Dallas or Vegas for the zillionth time. Big Grin

I hope to get loose of this project I am on in January 2008 so that we can get back to the business of our RTW trip. If it is indeed in January that I leave Poland I want to head straight to the Alps and ski for 3 months. As spring rolls in I want to drive down to Spain, park the car and spend a few weeks in Morocco.

After that is my biggest plan for 2008. Spend 6-7 months driving the coastline (most of it anyways) from Spain to Turkey. During this trip I plan on doing a few side trips to the mountains in the interior, (i.e. Switzerland, Slovenia, Romania maybe) and one long trip up to Norway.

That should about finish me for 2008. Might end the year travelling overland from South Africa to Nairobi, but I might be tired by then...

well i should be a well into my rtw trip and be somewhere in the US by the time jan 2008 rolls in.

So for me 2008 involves a WHV in new Zealand for 6 months, Australia and the start of SE Asia.

I'm in the process of planning a trip to Morocco and possibly Egypt with my uncle. The idea is still in its infancy, or course! Smile

2008...hmmm, haven't really thought out that far ahead.

But I suppose I'm leaning towards Russia as the main trip of 2008, and Spain as my shorter trip.

We'll see though because my Middle East addiction only seems to be getting worse and I doubt my upcoming trip through Egypt, Jordan and Syria will cure me.
