Do you typically prefer to explore one or two places in depth or to sample as many places as possible. Yeh it depends where you are etc.

Let me give an example: Suppose you are in Europe, suppose that you have never been to Europe before or been there before but only briefly. Suppose you had 2 months of travel-time. Would you explore just 1, 2 or 3 countries or parts of countries in detail or would you try and get an experience of many different places?

Question:
Are you a fast or slow traveller?

Choices:
Usually more FAST than slow
Usually more SLOW than fast

i definitely tend to go faster.. i just have to see EVERYTHING!!! To combat it I try not to plan so much and that helps, then I can come and go as I please but, it's a perpetual problem for me.

I am not sure how I would qualify myself. I think I might be a bit on the slow side. My last trip which took me to South America lasted just over 5 months and I spent on average about 1 month per country I visited.
At that pace I found that there were a lot of people that would blow by me and move much faster than I did.

Slow. I used to be a fast traveller (see the sights, check them off, move on), but it was more work than pleasure. What I like best is to move somewhere and explore it thoroughly.

Two options is hard. I am not a particularly fast traveller...I like to spend a few days in each spot, and have no desire to pop into a country, see its 4 most famous sights, and then move on. But I'm not exactly slow either, I rarely stay more than 4 nights, and will typically spend 3-4 weeks on one country, sometimes as little as two, but certainly not months on end.

I'm somewhere inbetween. I'm not going to visit 8 countries in a month as some do, but I'm not going to spend months in one country either. (well, I did spend 2 months in Russia but that included study and it is the largest country in the world)

Mostly I'd put myself on the slow side of travel. I like to take my time and explore. That said if I really develop a dislike for a place I will move on fairly quickly.

Some interesting answers.

When I started out travelling I was very fast, because there were so many places I wanted to see. Recently I have slowed down a bit but I still go relatively fast compared to some people. I guess I want to see as many places as possible while I am still young...

I usually focus a trip on a place to explore and then find myself adding stuff. I guess I have trouble with travel scope creep.

Mostly, I stay in one country, but I tend to add a little extra. Lately this has been happending in my European trips:

Examples: I spent 3 weeks in mainland Scotland but felt the need to add the Orkneys. Yes, I was only in one country and only one part, but you see the scope creep. Went to see Rome and ended up in Sicily. Heading to Germany next week for business and added a weekend in Prague and now it looks like I might spend a day in France too.

Fast traveler. I want to see as much as possible when I travel and have no problem bouncing from place to place. I get bored at all inclusive resorts and end up exploring the area.

I am sllllllllooooooooowwwww.

I've spent a lot of time travelling and only been to 10 countries. My last trip, I mean to spend about a month in each country. I ended up staying 3 months in one, 2 weeks in another (that I quite disliked), then 1 month in Italy, France and Holland--and I thought 3 countries in a month was fast.
I am a firm believer that 2 weeks is not considerable time to explore anything. After you're there for a weeks is when the shop owners start recognizing you. After another they may invite you somewhere, or tell you about a nifty inner-culture festival. 3 weeks and you're having dinner at their house...ect. You need time to form relationships with the culture. But this is why I travel. I dont travel to see sights. I could give 2 shits less about seeing towers or monuments. The only one the sorta interests me is Petra. Other then that...meh. It's the culture.

ONE TIME I followed my brother --who is an incredibly fast traveler--to Spain. We spent only a night, maybe 3 at most, in one city. To me this seemed chaotic and too much like a tornado. How can you dive into a city in a day or two? How can you really get into the subcultures and the people in just...3 nights? It seems impossible to me.

The trip with my brother left me sick and winded. The one time I finally got into Sevilla culture we had to leave the next day--me with absolutly 0 hours of sleep riding the train back to Madrid to catch my flight back to Marrakech.

Bah! Me no likey.

I'm slow. I travelled with someone fast last summer and although we managed to have a good time, I'm sure she felt like I was always dragging behind her and holding her back. And I felt like she was rushing through everything so fast that we hardly had time to enjoy things. I like to stop and explore a place on my own time. I hate having a strict agenda.

I used to think I was "fast", but I discovered I'm not upon gaining more travel experience on my last trip, perhaps medium or even....slow. I enjoy spending at least 3 or 4 days in each city, ideally more if it's interesting and nice, getting acquainted with the lay-out, the "feel", the attractions, etc. , and doing side / day trips from there. On my Spain trip I spent about a little under a week in each region (Barcelona, Basque Country, Madrid, Andalucia) and wish I could have dropped out Madrid (or gave it 1 day, to see the Archaeological Museum and Prado) to give either Basque Country or Andalucia more time.

I used to dream of going across Europe in 30 days or so, visiting 8 countries. I don't think that way any more.

My pen name is tortuga Traveller. Does that tell you anything?

If I spend less than 3 nights in a place, I feel cheated, and one week is defitely better. One month or more is not unheard of if my time schedule permits.

I don't speak spanish, so I had to look you up on wiki. It seems you are a turtle (also the name of an island).

I agree turtles are quite slow - EXCEPT when they are ninjas fighting crime. Ninja
