For a bunch of people who travel so much I think this is an interesting question.

*For sake of this poll you don't have to be 100% fluent, if you are a beginner or intermediate with a basic grasp of things then that counts as a language.

Question:
How many languages do you speak?

Choices:
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8 or more

I speak English fluently.

I can have basic conversations in German & French.

I can do travel basics (order food & drinks, ask directions, book hotels and stuff) in Spanish & Dutch.

I speak Spanish, English.

I am language learning deficient, but I've chosen to be proficient in at least one other language.

As an American, this makes me somewhat special.

As a european, it makes me backward. Oh well.

I speak English and then 2 languages that don't really help me outside of SA unless i'm talking to a fellow South African, Afrikaans and Zulu. Afrikaans is actually similar to Dutch, so if i concentrate really hard i can understand what a Dutch person is saying!

Yeh tell me about it. Roll Eyes

I speak English and some French, so that is 2 for me. In Spanish I know a few travel-related words but that is all.

German, Swiss German, English, French and Spanish. I can get by in Russian and am currently learning Bahasa Indonesia.

Funny thing is...I'm not all that good with languages. True. It's all a matter of experience, the more languages you know, the easier it gets to pick up a new one.

French - yeah, the conjugation sucks, especially if you know German and things work excactely the opposite there. Same goes for gender, cases, etc.

I think crazy boi is trying to keep tabs on us members of BnA. Writing down our langagues and nationalities and this and that. I think he's a spy. A bad spy, but a spy nonetheless.

And for the record I speak English, Arabic, some Spanish and am currently working on my French....which so far just consistes of flirtations and dirty talk.

I speak English and Spanish. I currently am learning Mandarin, which isn't nearly as difficult as you might think. No conjugation, for one!

...which is really all you need.

I speak over eight languages, all very badly. Or is it 'very poorly?' Or simply 'poorly?' I need to go reread Strunk & White so as to reacquire that English.
