So HELP! I quit my job, gave up my apartment, and traveled for 13 months. So far so good. I returned "home" about 6 months ago- albeit to a city I hadn't lived in for 8 years. But a friend offered his basement for free so...

So how have other people managed to get back into the real world? Any ideas for the job hunt? [I am working- but not in a career position- more temp thing] Or do I just work for awhile and save money and go again?

Any words of wisdom, advice etc would be helpful on how other people have gone about this. I don't regret doing what I did- but I'm wondering how to get back into the real world?

[and I am in my late 30s- so left a pretty serious career to do this]

Depends what you want to do with your live. I gave up a career to go traveling. When I got back I simply had no intention in going back into a career (and at the time also didn't really know what I would like to do), so I temped for a year and hit the road again. After the second year away, I know a bit better what I would like to do as a job (because, unfortunately we all have to make money somehow). I went back to school (and work), then left the country to finish school in a foreign country as an expat. Now I'm in a career that is more flexible, pays alright and I'm ready to hit the road again.

These things always seem so 'far away' and daunting. In reality, if you set your mind to it, you can do it. It's a bit scary at times (I've been 2 days away from deportation at one point)...but is it worse to stay at home, do your every day job and comply with all the expectations of society?
