help me please lovely booties i need some input. Since travelling round canada and US i made friends with a manager of a hostel. I am due to fly out of LA to NZ in feb and i have a working holiday visa there which i need to get to before end of april.

My friend has a staff issue and i offered to work there for 2 months delaying going to NZ - all i need to do is change flight and pay $100. If i work there i wont get paid but my accomodation in private room is free.

I dont know whether to go help them out - i love it there or whether to head to NZ and get paid work there but have to pay for accom. also if i stay in Canada for extra months i miss catching up with my best friends who leave NZ in march.

decisions decisions - what do you reckon? what would you do?

Michelle

Unless you are sleeping with this "friend", continue your original plan.

Ditto, but with the comma inside the quotation marks.

I would continue on with your original plan, especially since you're not getting paid.

You didn't sacrifice and scrimp and save for a huge RTW trip to help a friend in North America run a hostel.

Go.

And don't waste any time on the exit.

Count me in as a "go" vote. In fact, I don't quite understand the dilemma.

A) Go to NZ, as planned, enjoying a trip you've worked hard for and dreamed about while (bonus!) catching up with your best friends. Or...

B) Work for free for no obvious reason but because, um, somebody you just met asked you to?

Confused

I agree - Go to NZ.

However, if you feel like you would like more time in Canada, what about working for 1 month instead of 2? That way you can help out a bit and still have plenty of time in to catch up w/ friends as well.

wow its unilateral - no im not sleeping with this friend but he is a good friend and i considered helping him out. The dilema was because i have no fixed plan as long as i get to NZ by april i still have a working visa - i dont have a set time or date to be back in the UK i infact only have a ticket as far as NZ.

thanks for your opinions guys it helps to have them whilst weighing the choices

Mich

Look at it this way, perhaps: are you more likely to spend two months working in a hostel in the US thinking, "God, I wish I was in NZ having a beer with my mates", or spend two months with your mates thinking, "God I wish I was working in a hostel in the US"?

I think we both know the answer to that one.

Hope all is going well by the way Smile

Hi Michey, I would say that a response another OP made further up this thread was a good one...why not go and help him out for a month...

That way you still get to help a friend, have the experience of working in a Hostel, spend more time living there as opposed to being a tourist and also have more than enough time to go meet your friends in NZ and collect your WHV...

btw...thank you sooooo much for your blog, I'm loving it!!

Hope you're having fun!!
