Air travel is going to be a hassle over the long Thanksgiving weekend.
That's a given.

The question these days is not whether you can avoid the rush, but whether you can get through the long lines without becoming a spectacle, or worse, an object of ridicule, as you stand there emptying your luggage and turning out your pockets while tidier travelers sweep by, heading for the plane.

Huge crowds are expected at all three of the Bay Area's international airports starting today. And, as usual since Sept. 11, 2001, many in those crowds will be pulled aside by security checkers and forced into various indignities, the most common of which is the removal of shoes and the exposure of stinking, hole-ridden socks.

It is a situation that once-a-year travelers are being encouraged to prepare for as entire families with strollers and bawling, sometimes brawling, children descend on the airports in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose, dragging mounds of luggage full of objects that couldn't pass through a metal detector even if it was unplugged.

What struck me was

"...over 4000 people a day are forecast to use BART to get to the airport".

4000!? Out of 100,000 people! Eek

Leave the car at home folks: you're flying to Uncle Bob's this year Big Grin

It sounds like Christmas travel... stupid me, going to school so far away that I have to fly in and out of Pearson Airport (the largest in Canada) during the holiday season. It's enough to make me want to cry, just thinking of the security line ups... *shudders* No! You cannot bring through those giant scissors, even if they are for sewing!

I'd rather be stuck in a security line-up than stuck here for the next few months. At least being in a security line-up means I'm going somewhere else.....

I don't mind the security line up on the way back to Halifax... but the security line up flying into Toronto makes me want to cry since it means I have to go home for the holidays.

I hate the town where I more or less grew up... I keep trying to get my parents to move, but apparently the fact my mom is in one of the richest pension plans in the world, and has a great benefit package plus only like, five years left means that they're going to wait it out until she retires.

I tried to get them to come down here and visit relatives for Christmas... and I've also been looking for permanent fixtures to chain myself to. So far, no luck.
