my roommie is thinking about making a drastic move sometime within the next year. he is 19 yrs old and just really needs a change in scenery. he was thinking about moving somewhere in the states but is now considering making a move to london. He is pretty sure he will be cut off from his parents and will have no car so he needs to move to a place with good public transportation. in short do you guys have any suggestions on where my roommate could move either in the UK or the US. any advice on trying to live in london, how to get a work permit, job, flat?

he is looking for anything really. he has a lot of experience with hotels because his family owns a couple. im pretty sure he is willing to do anything, but would prefer to work with college age people.

Unless he finds a good job, good luck with London. Standard of living + hard to find jobs = bad situation. How bout Portland? I've lots of good things about it, prices for the city aren't that bad compared to other major cities, and the lite rail system is stupendous...so I've heard.

Is he in outdors type? (hiking, rafting, skiing?) Reno is not a bad place to live. Cost of living is slightly increasing, but alot of people are coming here from Bay Area and stuff. I rode the bus here for about 2 years when I first moved here. It sucks waiting for busses and stuff, but they go everywhere here. I didn't have any problems getting around. Plus, the hotel/casinos here are always hiring for just about anything. I found it easier living here than when I lived in washington. I spent about six months in South Bend then moved to Aberdeen, before I made it to Olympia. It was really nice there, but especially in the rural parts, no jobs.

Oh I forgot to mention, Northen Nevada has really opened itself up to the outdoor sports market. There's many beautiful places to Hike, and cycle around lake tahoe, or pyramid lake. The just built a kayak/rapids park at the river through downtown Reno. It's about 2 hours to Sacramento, 4 or so to San Fran or Salt Lake City. Pacific Northwest is really nice. I just got tired of the rain.

london may be expensive but i would never discourage anyone from moving there....i think everyone should live in london at least once in their life. it may not be easy to save money there, but if you can find an ok place to live with good roomates and a hotel or restaurant job, you've got nothing to worry about...your place might be tiny and spending money but be sparce but odds are hes not moving there for luxury but juts to get away and ahve fun..otherwise try another british city.....i love brighton, its on got the ocean and lots of cool people...i managed to save up enough to go to south africa while i was living there....so it is possible to make money and save it in the uk.if you start running short theres always guinea pigs get paid!!1...
