In case someone has watched the PBS documentary Auschwitz: Inside the Nazi State these poems I found on the net might be of interest.

Joe, I thought your company motto was 'Heuter Europa, Morgen Die Welt'

Interesting stuff. I love PBS too Smile

Now I have to decide if I should watch the show or not, because I'll be seeing Auschwitz in person in May.

Hey Liz,
Try to prepare yourself for Auschwitz. It's basically the only thing you'll do that day, even if you come home in the afternoon.
I thought I had prepared myself, but I was totally bowled over.
Jordan Bus Tours can take you there from Krakow.

Liz, it's (yet again) another great PBS show. If you bought "Globe Trekker" DVD's then why not watch this show before hand as well?

I really regret not going to Auschwitz when I was in southern Poland a few years ago. I still have the pamphlet from one of the tour companies that the dorm @ Krakow U. I was staying in had in the lobby, but I couldn't bring myself to visit it. I knew it'd put a damper on the good vibes I was having at the time so I went to the Salt Mine & Zakopane instead.

BTW: can anyone explain to me something I was confused about in Part Two this past Wednesday: what was the deal w/ the British gov't deporting the 4 Jewish women who were nannies in the Channel Islands? Why did they not give them sanctuary? I never heard that story before. I also never heard about "Building 24" (the brothel) @ Auschwitz. I wish PBS had talked more about that.

Also, earlier tonite on PBS' "Washington Week" they mentioned & showed a photo of the 60th Anniversary ceremonies @ Auschwitz on Thursday... America's representative, Dick Cheney, was THE ONLY dignitary NOT wearing black! Red Face Another humiliating moment for America...

hmmm dick chaney not showing respect.....
go figure. you would think since our government(then) sent 200k jewish people back to germany to die in places like Auschwitz our government reps now would be more respectful that. Oh well maybe the 4th reich showing up in SS all black would have been equally disrespectful. Some parts of american history shame me to no end.

Accountability... How do you go about require this in the world political arena? How do you enforce it?
Sorry if I pissed anyone off but I remember seeing that PBS special and I don't think they covered enough of the "TRUTH" of what actually led up to this shamefull moment in world history. And if we don't know the truth of it how can we avoid it in the future? We can't. All the same shit that happened leading up to it could for all we know be going on anywhere else in the world as we speak(err type). And none of us would even know because none of us(and I mean none, definatively) even know the entire truth. There was much more indirect involvment than certain people/countries would like to acknowledge. I better stop this tangent of thought before I piss more people off.
Until later,
Diatomis

I love, uncontrollably and without restraint. With a love so pure it permiates the air surrounding me. Creating an almost visible cloud of surene contentment.
