Knows What a Schengen Visa Is

I apologize for posting this here, but I'm not sure it will get much attention in the other forum.

I just got back from Egypt (the most fascinating 6 days of my life!), and I would like to put my and my friends' total of 1000+ pictures into a music video/ slideshow. - if you have any suggestions for this project it would be greatly appreciated since it'll be my first on my own - .

Anyway, while we were in Aswan, we were taken to a Nubian village, and while on the felucca we were entertained with live Nubian music as we danced on the boat. It was great fun. I am looking for this particular folk song which goes something like " ohhh a le le....ohhh a le le..." haha sorry that's the only part I know. I would love to put that in the video so if you have any leads for me PLEASE tell me!

Any other nice upbeat Egyptian or Arabic music I could use?

Thanks so much! Big Grin

I'm sorry to tell you this but that chorus is in almost every Egyptian song I've ever heard...so I can't help you there.

However if you're looking for something sort of 'spiritual and enya-esque' There is this really pretty song I have by this Sudanese (very close to egypt) woman.
It's called Leali by this woman Rasha who has a beautiful and haunting voice.

The CD also has some very upbeat songs on it.
Another good one is Arabic Groove. It has a lot of upbeat songs from that region. A lot of them are sorta westernized though. Good luck!

I posted a link to the CD where you can actually listen to the tune. From Cairo to Casablanca

If you want something that has a desert feel but it more western-ish, try Conjure One's first album. It's Rhys Fulburn (whatever his last name is) from Delerium's solo album after he went traveling for 5 yrs, and it definately has some tracks on it that just scream "play me during travel photos".

Another option is by a group called Tinariwen. You can find it at http://www.worldvillagemusic.com

Or if you want something North African and kinda Western, try Ali Farka Touré. Brilliant musician from Mali, heavy Jazz influence and definitely has that desert thing going for him. Not very Arabian though (although Egypt..... oh, never mind, trying pinpointing that ethnicity - if it even is a single one - is bound to get you in trouble.)

Funny you should say that.I had this dicussion with a Lebanese friend of mine , about whether Egypt is really an Arab or African country. Is it a sensitive topic among Egyptians or Arabs? I'm quite clueless about this region.

The way I see it , most of Egypt (especially Cairo) is really Arabic in every aspect of the word, although it lies in the African continent. Us you go south, to Upper Egypt, like in Aswan, you find that the African feel starts to come alive. Especially among the Nubians.

The most popular Egyptian artist these days is Amr Diab.
As to the other suggestions-they have no relation to Egytptian music at all.

Yes, I have a couple of Amr Diab songs and some of Hossam Ramzy. They are 2 of the most popular Egyptian musicians and they do make great music. Many of them sound so similar though, especially the first few chords. Almost exactly the same.

Aqua, I'll look into that, thanks for the suggestion. Smile

Aqua, that Opa Opa is pretty good. I think it's Greek though, isn't it? It's very upbeat and makes you wanna get up and dance. I'll save it for when I get down to making my Greece slideshow. Thanks!

LOL, oh, never heard of Greek before, so I just thought it was Arabic. The music video of it is out in the desert so I just assumed it's a desert kind of song! Hehe. But glad you liked it.
