Just so everyone knows, I'm collecting all feedback - good and bad - and we'll decide what to do with it later. If there are things that are easy to adjust and make sense to adjust, we'll probably do that sooner. If there's something that requires programming time, it might wait. But no matter what your feedback is, we want to hear it! So keep it coming...

Does it make sense to allow tagging of Chit Chat posts? Since they cannot be viewed without an account, and are by definition not travel related, maybe tagging should be disabled there?

Bug: So, on the index we see moderator geek squad (2) and when you click it three entries show up, two of which are the same thread.

I know, I saw that - I don't know what's up with that. One of the links for that duplicate thread doesn't even work. I'll add it to the list, along with the note about the chit-chat posts.

Some capitalized tags have gotten through: Europe, Rick Steves.

I don't see how to add tags for photo albums.

Stoo, our one-man QA squad...

1. There are no tags on photo albums. Yet. Might be version 2.0.

2. I'll add the capitalization thing to the list, too, although I don't know if it's really a problem. It would only be an issue, I guess, if there was a Europe and a europe, which I don't see right now.

So are we gonna get to see a cloud view too? Big Grin Seriously, I'm way excited about this feature - it's a great idea! It would be nice if the software could suggest tags based on the content of the post - I love that feature on other sites.

Which I just tried to do...pretty fancy...I was expecting duplicates...but it is smarter than me. Yup, fancy.

Now, this might be asking for too much, but it might be cool to have suggested tags, sorta like how del.icio.us works. Smile

There are lots of threads that deserve tags but you are never going to get people to tag them, nor that motley lot of overpaid moderators. Maybe you could have a new admin level: tagorators. Cool

I've started tagging all threads that I start with 'jester'. That way, if you want to ignore all the fluff on bna and get straight to the good stuff, you can just search for me. You're welcome!

I wondered when we would see our first case of tag abuse. Clearly we need to legislate and litigate to prevent the Gartenjester, etc. from running amuck. Crazy

And here's me thinking that's not really "abuse." I just think it's another great use of tags. Can you tell I'm really excited about having tags on the boards?

I'm sure this will come as a shock to some of you, but I'm a little bit sloe when it comes to technology.

Is only original post that started a thread tagable?

As an experiment, I went to a post within a thread where I linked to a good Mexico bus info site and tried to tag it, but couldn't tell how it's done via the "edit post" feature.

Good heavens, Sir! "tagable" is not a proper word!
Anyway, when needed, Moderators can add tags, as I just did.

Yes, NTFT, only the original poster can go back and edit his/her old posts to add tags. You can edit all your old posts, but not ones where you added to someone else's thread. As static mentioned, however, mods are blessed with superpowers and they can add tags to anyone's threads. If anyone finds certain threads that should be tagged, let us know.

Tag, I'm it, I guess. (And static, yes, I almost made a joke about the "word" tagable when I posted it.)

I figured only the originating post in a thread was tagalicious ( Razz), and therefore only the person who posted it--or a mod--could modify it.

Since the goal is obviously to make good, specific information more easily found, is there any way to the separate out the feature/functionality? As often as not, the valuable information gets put in the replies, and expecting the original thread starter, or a mod, to go to the effort to re-tag their post seems unrealistic in a lot of cases. This may be a bad idea for reasons I'm not imagining, or technically impossible anyway, but here's a "for example":

In a very general question in the member's forum the other day....I ended up posting a link to an (outside) website that has really good bus info for Mexico. (And there aren't many of those.) If I could have quickly tagged that myself, it would forever be easily found.

I guess you couldn't make each individual post within a thread tagnacious, as that would probably get unweildly. Hmmmm. I dunno. I just know I've seen threads in the past and crossed my fingers hoping I'd be able to find them in the future, and have also had very spotty/little success with the way the old search functionality worked.
