2. Box of Twinnings Earl Grey tea bags-- I cann't do without ....my cuppas Thumbs Up
3. Plastic screw-top jar of coffee--at least you have the

Have a nice day, Whistler.

1. Camera (a cheap digital one)
2. Journal (a nice hardbound one)
3. Frisbee (a proper 175g one -- it has so many uses besides being something to toss around)

1. A GAMES magazine. Hours on the plane just fly by working on word and logic puzzles.
2. A deck of cards. I may add UNO, travel backgammon and a small dominoes set for the next trip.
3. A portable CD player. Less used now that I have my gf Netts along, but it was essential in my single days.

My dear, dear girl. If one is going to go to that trouble to maintain decent standards, as one should of course, surely one should be drinking a superior cup of tea?

You know what's funny, is I don't care for Twinings teas - I used to like many of them, but now really don't care for the flavors (also, English Breakfast blends have become one of my least favorites anyway). But I guess everyone has their preferences! I've been guilty of bringing tea along (ever since I discovered Spain didn't have any black tea at their establishments..only a funny red tea) -- Tazo Awake, and also my new fav brand is Taylors & Harrowgate. So tea would be 'unnecessary item' number one.

2. Deck of cards, or any sorts of games - I'm a fan of puzzle books as well. On my last trip my brother was with me, and we're both scrabble geeks, so we had a travel scrabble set that we played on the plane.

3. Hairdryer. I've gone on trips without it so can make do, but really, I end up looking like crap (I don't have an easily manageable head of hair) --- so it's coming along on any future trips that I'll have the facilities to be able to use it.

--I'm with others - camera is NOT 'unnecessary', nor is a journal.

I was once a PG Tips addict, but then I moved abroad (i.e. Scotland - mock ye not) and it's actually pretty hard to get a regular supply up here. Of PG I mean. So one day, in utter desperation, I tried Twinings English Breakfast. And I've never looked back. Each to their own though. And at least we'll never steal each other's teabags Smile

Oh, and btw, I'm as common and Southern as they get, as well you know!

1) Deck of Cards - and I used those a lot!

2) Sudoko - the best for airplane rides!

3) Hot sauce - for all that boring campstove food, at least you get a little bit of flavor (and I added it to everything! hot sauce on a cucumber, mmm, lol)

I consider journal, camera, and books all necessary items so I'm not including them :P

Can't leave home without:

1) Money.

2) I'm not that sentimental. As long as I've got #1, the rest will take care of itself.

1) a small, LED light that I can turn on by biting it to free up my hands for dark, dodgy bus bathrooms or putting a key in a door in a dark hallway

2) camera...but does this really count as "unnecessary? I think not. I would rather travel without pants than not have my camera. So, since a camera is hereby reclassified as necessary:

2 1/2) small bag of plastic spoons

3) leatherman (one with a corkscrew AND a can opener)

1) iPod

2) Tiny picture book that holds about 15 photos. Inside are pics of my dogs (both the ones still alive and those that have passed on to the big dog park in the sky) as well as a pic of my house and a pic of my neighborhood. I can't count how many times I've shown the pics of my house/neighborhood and had it start great conversations with strangers about similarities and differences in our daily lives.

3) A packet of Fran's bittersweet dark chocolate squares. It's my security blanket in case I find myself somewhere without any chocolate.

-a red spork
-a red flashlight
-at least 800 pages' worth of paperback mysteries, preferably of the gory forensic type
Off Topic Among the donations to our library, I found a paperback from the U.K. filled with "true" (?) stories of ghastly things that had happened to overseas backpackers. Wish I had held onto that.
