When I decided to move to NZ with my partner, I found BnA while searching for cheap international airfare. Then I started looking through the australasia section, then I slowly got sucked in completely, especially after I started my travel blog through BnA.

I googled "monkey dong travel scream boot" and there you were, right in the middle of the first page. Kismet, I guess.

p.s but I never found the blog.

Well, I didn't actually get referred to BNA from Rolf Pott's "Vagabonding" but after I got done reading it I typed in the word vagabonding on google and eventually came here.

I wrote some cheesy "about me" to the moderators and now i've been hooked since 2004

I wound up on the boards in the middle of my 4 1/2 years away and was killing 6 weeks waiting for my WHV to come through. BnA kept me sane through my boredom.

A fellow member of BnA pulled me from the bleekness that is Thorn Tree and showed me the light! I haven't looked back since then... it's just great to find a group of great, like-minded people! Smile

After returning from travelling last year a good friend of mine asked if I had created a travel blog. I hadn't but really regret it because I took a poxy diary that only had small entry spaces so there are a lot of lost memories. Now that I am planning another trip I took my friends advice and started to create my blog which inturn lead me to the forums etc.

I found BNA in 2003 when I was looking for information on independent long term travel. I had an itch to do a RTW but didn't know what it meant or how to do it.

When I found BNA I was hooked! I love this site and spend wayyyy to much time on it when I should be working. It provided me with a blog site, it gave me the resources to figure out how to travel and most of all it gave (and continues to give me) inspiration and feeds my desire to hit the road once again.

I really love this site!!

Hey Jessie

I came across the name in The Rough Guide to Travel Online and i thought it sounded like a strange name for a website so intrigued I checked it out and the rest they say is history!

Found the site in a guide book while looking for hostels to stay at in Europe 2005. Started reading the posts and was thrilled and excited to find people who are passionate about traveling.
This site keeps me going during the "dry" season.

I was gearing up to quit my job and trying to figure out where to escape to. I did some random google searches (Alaska, Costa Rica, Peru travel) and found BnA. I was a lurker for a while until I really needed more info.

i found it through the vaganbonding by rolf pots website, but then later remembered that i had read about the website in the about the author section of a little book called whos panties are these?. and its funny how i read that book, end up being part of this strange group, the author is linked to the roup and she ends up in portland conveniently on the night of my party and ends up giving me a shout out at her reading. funny how things work out. as wierd as i think all this is sometimes, i totally think i was suppose to be a part of this.

I found Bootsnall by Googling 'trip planning' or something like that, and like most people ended up reading everything on here - RTW pre/post trip interviews, the boards, RTW guide, and anything to do with budgeting. Best travel resource I've found by far - sh*ts over any guidebook when you can ask been-there-done-it travellers for advice and get several accurate replies within a short space of time, about anything you want.

And Return to Oz has some ACE friends who introduce him to addictive websites. If only his avatar wasn't a picture of him poking himself in the eye. That I took...

I still plan to pay you guys and gals in Portland a visit at BNA HQ when I get to the states Big Grin . Oh by the way I have a habit of breaking my own limbs when I'm wasted Abzv So have an ambulance at the ready. HeHe

You know, now that I think about it....I have no idea.

I'm guessing I stumbled across it in a search fueled by a general boredom with my current situation and a longing to get out on the road again.

I was directed to bootsnall from an anthropology lecturer... can you imagine taking a course where all you do is learn about other cultures and ways of life, its awesome. The only downside is you learn from the comfort of a theater rather than experiencing it for yourself... Thank goodness I've managed to talk them into funding my next seven months backpacking in south and central america...

err, did I say 'backpacking', I meant research, ofcourse, research thats it! Wink
