I heard about BnA from a fellow university student in Chicago. She is friends with the founders and knew I was moving to Poland to teach after finishing my elementary ed.studies. She figured I could benefit/share from/with ya'll. So that's what I've been doing! I'm itching to partake in one of the trips, but still saving (teachers salary and all...).

I was reading lots of travel books on my exercize bike ( that is now sold..boo hoo Wink ) and one of them was an interesting one from the library, Rolf Pott's Vagabonding.

He mentions bootnall in his links..so I checked it out & have been enjoying it ever sense.

I was trying to find out about travel from Manila to Hong Kong. Sometimes it's really cheap here. Then I found a neat article. There weren't any links on the page, but up at the top in the url, the main URL was bootsnall...so I came here. That's my story. Exciting.

I stumbled across Rolf Potts Vagabonding book and enjoyed reading it immensely - in which he has many great resources, and what do you know I found this little gem.

I just stumbled across it while googling for info on round-the-world trips. Thank god I found it. I'm not sure I would've taken the leap (my extended travels start in January) without it. I knew people took gap years based on my previous travels, but I thought those types were few and far inbetween. I was thinking (as were many of my colleagues) that I must be the craziest person in the world to leave a steady job, career, life just to check out of here to check out the world. Then I found bootsnall and realized that, while I am surely insane, there are many, many, many more like me out there. Thanks!

I went through a period when I would just read travel stories all the time, trying to make up for the fact that I can't leave on my tip til next year. I stumbled across BnA a few times, then discovered the RTW section, then on to the forums.

Before I found BnA, i didn't even know that people travelled with carry-on bags on long trips. I'm still nervous about next year, but hearing about other people doing adventurous things has really helped with the confidance thing, if only i could convince my friends and family it was a good and safe idea.

So I suppose I'm just the same as most people, stumbled across it.

My first solo trip, four days in London. Nothing incredible, but I was anxious about it because everyone kept acting astonished that I would travel alone... So, that fed into more anxiety.

Between the travel articles and advice on the boards, I had a great first trip, and tho I can't shed my job and do it up proper, I have traveled solo to Scotland, London again, and to Italy.

And boots-n-all has been part of all that. =D

Back around 1995, I was a avid member of the AOL travel boards and used them extensively to plan my trips. By '98 or so, I had weaned myself off AOL (plus their boards started going downhill) and resigned myself to surfing the spammy boards of rec.travel.europe. Occasionally, I'd find a few other boards, but nothing like what I was looking for. Then, just the other day, someone on the newsgroups gave a link to here and said it was an awesome travel board. So I came and I'm hooked...
