I'm flying out of Denpasar at 2am and don't think I want to stay in the actual city...it seems to me that a good way to deal with this situation would be to hang out somewhere like Kuta where I could be up late, out and about, and then not be too far to take a cab to the airport.

(in other words I don't want to waste a night of accomodations if I fly out at 2am!)

Any suggestions as to where would be the best place to stay the night before and/or hang out the night that I leave?

I would plan on an unhurried dinner at Jimbaran Bay, at one of the little local owned restorans. Have a Taxi take you there then wait for you or better yet invite the Taxi driver to have dinner with you. You will be on the beach, could go swimming if you like or walk on the beach, enjoy the waves and the quiet or listen to some music, dig your feet into the sand. Enjoy talking to the wait staff. It is so close to the Airport that there isn't any way that there would be a traffic problem. I had one of the best crab dinners ever and all for only $5.00 american. One of the best experiences ever. It would be the topper to whatever you did for that entire day and for the end of your trip, and it would be true Bali right up to the last minute.
