Knows What a Schengen Visa Is

I'm just running some numbers for a long term stay somewhere outside of Bali. Right now I'm considering Sumbawa, Java, and Sumatra.

The plan is to show up and find a place near some surf that I can stay for a couple months (ferrying back and forth for visa's of course). I've been told that there are places in Sumatra where it can be done for around $300/month for accomodation and around $100 for food.

Is this a reasonable expectation? How about Sumbawa; any experiences there (accomodation, prices, surf)?

Dan,

There are a few different places you can stay in Sumbawa on the beach. Just get to Lakeys and there are a few hut style places you can stay at there on the beach. Usually about 3$ night(includes banana pancake for breakfst) to saty at Puma Bungalos. The is a place to eat right next to puma called fatmars.Food is cheap and super good.Place is owned by a French guy and the local kids that work there are great. Be cool to the groms(joey, rudy, sadam) and hook them up with gear and your sure to get pleanty of good waves.Lakey Peak is right out infront of where you stay. perfect peak right and left because it's right out front it tends to get crowded...Lakey Pipe is a hallow left right down from the peak..sick pits..don't surf it to low of a tide or you'll pay.go a few miles down the road to cooblestones to score some uncrowded surf..

Sweet! Exactly what I was looking for... thanks for the reply. Sounds like the $3/night probably have no power/running water right? Any chance of scoring a place with power and water? Since I plan on hole'ing up for a couple months, I'd like both.

Thanks again.

Edit -- read in your profile you have some stories to share about Indo... I'd love to hear some, especially rec's and tips for a surfer heading down there on foot. Drop me an email if you get time --> dan@neverbecomplete.com
