Just back from a second honeymoon in Bali, although the first time was in 1980 !
Great to wander around and see how it's turned out, but we did do a couple of "tourist" things that either weren't accessible, there, or much known in the old days.

Lovely experiences for us were;

* Time in Ubud. Totally different environment - very "relaxing" wandering around. If you have time, you should spend a couple of days there. If not, it's only an hour or so up the road. Pay a visit to Cafe Lotus for lunch, the Jazz Club for dinner, Naughty Nuri's Warung for cocktails and Simon's Art Studio for the experience...
* Tanah Lot temple - must see for photos
* Kecak Dance at Uluwatu temple at sunset. Great show.
* Seafood dinner at Jimbaran Bay. Not sensational, but definitely part of the Bali experience.

No need to pre-book tours or cars - you'll be approached by hotel staff - everyone seems to run a private business on the side, or has an uncle/cousin who has an air-con car. Going rate woould be around 400,000rp for 5-6 hours.

We will be arriving in Bali at the end of March and staying for two weeks, we have booked at the adi dharma hotel in Kuta, is this a decent hotel? I will have my son 17 and daughter and boyfriend 19,22, with me and they would really like to go surfing with there own age group, do you know of anyone that they can meet up with. My husband would love to go deep sea/game fishing do you have any contacts for that and around how much it would be please.
I am also looking to have some dressess and undewear made in bali do you know of any good taylors, the boys all want to have some suites made too. Look forward to your feed back and maybe we can catch up for a drink, ah and what about white water river rafting thats for me....

Hello Nick

I've just posted this same question as a separate thread, but I figured if you didn't see that I would write on your thread:

I am heading to Bali for my long awaited (have spent 10 months apart) reunion with my Kiwi boyfriend.

We are getting into Denpasar late, about 2100, but I still figured we could catch a taxi straight to Ubud from the airport. I picture Ubud being the place where we want to be if all we are going to be doing the first few days is hang with each other in the hotel, take walks and eat.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

1. Should we head somewhere closer to the airport for the first night? (is Ubud too far to go there late from airport?)

2. Is it reasonable to take a taxi from the airport to Ubud? (both in logistics and price?)

2. Any recommendations for someplace cheap (reasonable) to stay in Ubud that we would still have good privacy and reasonable comfort? (we are backpacker budget, somewhere around $20 a night)

I am going to Bali where I amongst other things is going for my first real surfing experince, which is going to be great... but I was wondering if it is possible to buy long sleeved wetshirts for protection against the sun? I figured as the climate is there is meight not be something that stores have on stock...
I'm also interested in visiting the Nokia Store so if it possible with some advise on how to find it? that would me make me really happy... Thanks!

Yes you can buy full arm rash shirts and 1mm thick wetsuit tops here in Bali. Rash shirts, or 'rashies' as they are know are not cheap here. Costing about RP350,000 the wetsuit tops are about RP1,200,000. Most are fully imported as the major companies are unable to get the right finish with the stretchy Lycras and neoprene used. Have a look in your local surf shops before coming to Bali to see if you can't get it cheaper.

I have no idea about Nokia shops??? I would have though Singapore better for that!
