Hello?

I'm currently in Australia but was thinking of hopping on a cheap Jetstar flight to Bali - one way.

Not sure what or where I'll be going after that but the plan is to get home (UK) without planning anything or booking flights too far in advance.

So I was thinking...I know that for some countries I'll have to sort out visas but could anyone tell me - will I need proof of an ongoing ticket? Do you think I'll have problems getting through customs.

Not sure on Indonesian attitude re onward flights but often the problem comes from an airline in carrying passengers.

I'd check first with Jetstar re their policy as if an airline takes a passenger somewhere where they do not comply with entry requirements, they can be fined and then up for returning you.

One way around it if Jetstar are not an obstacle is either look for the cheapest flight from Indonesia or print yourself up an itinerary that shows you using ferries and land transport - would possibly do the trick as far as Indonesians may be concerned.

As for visa, you can get them on arrival and www.projectvisa.com is a great resource for checking generally.

You'll get a one month's visa on entry, but a return ticket is usually required, and I think it has to be a flight. I got around that by booking a cheap AirAsia flight from Denpasar to Kuala Lumpur. You'll have good options for onward travel from there. Again, visas for Malaysia and Thailand are available upon arrival.

I have flown into Bali without a ticket out and been okay, I've also had hassle, not from the Bali end, but from the place I came from.

Once flying from Sydney, I had to purchase a onward ticket to Singapore, to satify the Qantas people. Back in July the staff in London were touch and go about letting me on the plane, becasue I had no onward ticket. If you buy an onward ticket at the airport, which is 'Full Fare', you can get a refund at a later date.
