Hi Kamal,
I posted some advice on this topic in a recent thread. In short how much do you know about furniture and wood? Buying abroad particularly in Indonesia is a potantial minefield and best left to professionals.Even with a knowlegable guide when money and commisions are involved (and they always are) you can't trust anyone unfortunately. If you know exactly what you want then Java is cheaper than Bali. almost all the furniture on sale in Bali is made in Java and finished (sanded and polished) in Bali. If you are looking for a minimum order of a whole 20' container then most reputable companies will offer a wholesale price to you (including mine - I have to claim a vested interest here - retail website at http://www.oldteak.co.uk). I recommend this as the way to proceed. Find a western (US or European) based business that you can deal with under US or European law that has its own manufacturing business in Indonesia (these are very few as most buy from Indonesian manufacturers). Find a style and a budget range and they should be able to offer you a complete package that allows you considerable cost savings and peace of mind, and a holiday rather than an uninformed buying trip! If you want more detailed advice please contact me via the website. Old Teak |

Hi Kamal,
I agree completely with "old teak" I am in the furniture business as well, and going on checking things on your own might end up in a lot of misfortune. If you decide to go to this process alone anyway, make sure You are well prepared. Bring a moisture meter and make sure that u can monitor the whole process until you’re goods are shipped out. (This is a bit troublesome if you are in Indonesia for three weeks only.) If you want more information you can send me a personal message. I am working for a Bali based Furniture and export Company; we partly produce our own furniture and buy partly from trusted suppliers. And we know where to find possibly every product sold in Bali. I am happy to show you around. But I must agree with "old teak" buying of good quality furniture and accessories can take out a fair bit of time out of you’re fairly deserved Holiday. Well whatever you decide to de good luck on you’re search, and have a nice stay in Bali! |

Hello Jorz,
I really appreciate your advice. This trip is not a holiday but an actual business trip to furnish our house which we plan to sell. Can I call you? Is there any way we can meet in Bali and I can show you pictures of what I am looking for... It would be nice to meet for coffee and get some sources from you... Kamal |
