My husband and I are going to Bali next week and I notice that the VOA at the airport is USD$25, this is probably a silly question but can I pay this in AUD Dollars or do I have to have USD? Also any advice on the what money to take would be appreciated, that is Travellers Cheques VS Aussie Dollars or maybe even take US Dollars. Also what should I pay for an airport transfer to Sanur for 2 adults and one longboard (9ft). All advice would be good ..... Cheers

We (Australians) were there most recently about a year ago. I completely forget how we paid for our visa, but we carried no $US. Maybe we used credit card. In any case it does no harm to arrive with a few rupea for essentials like taxi, maybe visa and Bintang.
Bali is very used to Australian tourists, I've never taken $US there ( or anywhere else other than Cambodia and Laos and Vietnam in the early days) and in recent years I've always relied on debit card and ATMs. No problem. There are ATMs at the airport and at most other spots used by travellers. I certainly never use travellers cheques these days. They are yesterday's travel currency, though I still have a few left over from a trip in about 1995 which I usually carry in case of emergency. I wonder if they're still valid. There is also a taxi desk at the airport where you can pre purchase a cab to your destination at an honest fare. |

Hi Ozzie Jules,
I have just returned from a two week trip to Bali and to answer your Q's is easy. Firstly, it's better to pay your VOA in USD$'s to alleviate any hassle. It'll cost you USD$25 for 30 days. Note Note: The Departure Tax is now Rp150,000 Regarding the money situation, it is far better to use AUD$'s or USD$'s rather than Travellers Cheques as with the cheques you are forever carrying your passport to change money. AUD$1 = Rp8,350 at the moment but it fluctuates but not by much. As Groo mentioned, the taxi booth at the airport organises ALL taxis out of there. Getting one to Sanur is no problem. Hope the info helps. Indonesialogue http://www.indonesialogue.com 'Wombat Wanderer' E.M. Forster: It is only by going off the track that you get to know the country... |

hi
it's probably better to buy/take US$25 with you for the voa. you'll move much more quickly thru the queue. i'd take some AUD and the fantastic plastic. if you take USD you'll pay commision on purchase. the AUD is strong. there are plenty of atm's. if u use the latter draw a couple of days cash to minimise transaction fees. |
