Is it true that Balinese girls will approach you
on the beach and offer you a Massage for $1 ?

Hi Richard, "girls" could be a bit of a misnomer, as the massage ladies are, more often than not, rather mature. And don't worry, it's all above board (shorts)

In Bali you can get whatever massage you want. Beach massages are usually given by older ladies in their 40's-50's. Its basically a 'rub oil into you' type of deal.

Plenty of small spas around town that do good work, for example Bodyworks on Jl. Seminyak and the 'rub & tug' places like Kuta Sauna (next to the roundabout), close to Dijon Deli, where everything is negotiable.

I don't think they are $1. Yes, there are women who will want to give you a massage on the beach (not young girls) Sorry I have never tried one, I just can get in the mood for a massage in the "heat" outside. But it definitely available. John

My friend had a massage on Kuta beach the first time we went to Bali. Although the massage was very good, it seemed saying yes to a massage was an open invitation for everyone selling anything to interrupt her and relaxing wasn't a possibility. - I just buried my head in a book and said no thanks to everyone. I have had several massages in spas and recommend them above a beach massage any day.

Yeah. A beach massage does not seem like the ticket for me. Any wind means the sand will get blown onto you and stick to the oil. Imagine how that feels getting rubbed in!

Chatting with tourists the variety of massage is great, everything from heaven to torture. I've had people crack my fingers, toes, bad shoulder, rub their thumb up my shin bone etc. ...pure pain.
