Guidebook Dependent |
Hi All,
I've read through a few old posts on this but I figured it may have changed in the last few years. I'm flying into Bali from Sydney with Jetstar, currently I don't have an onward ticket. I want to go to Jogya as well, probably by plane. Does jetstar allow boarding without an onward ticket and if so will $20 in my passport at immigration still work? Is it likely I would have to again arriving in Jogya or are domestic flights not a worry? I guess my other option is to get myself sorted an lock myself in for a set time in Indonesia a book a flight out. |

From what Indonesia hands have told me, Denpasar is the place in Indonesia where officials are most likely to check for an onward ticket. Malaysia Air offers an inexpensive, refundable ticket from Medan to Penang that does the trick. They also have an office on Bali where you can get the refund once you're on the ground there.

Lost in Place |
Hi Stone,
Denpasar (Ngurah Rai Airport) is the one place in Indonesia where they are red-hot in regards to onward tickets. It depends how long you will be in Indonesia and I am thinking it would be better to have your return flight ticket. Then you can land in DPS, look around Bali and then head over to Yogyakarta. You can purchase domestic tickets at any travel agent in Kuta. I would recommend Lady's Travel Agency on Poppies Lane 2. She handles all my domestic flights and gives you a good price. I haven’t been asked for an onward ticket the last few times I went through Indo immigration – but a buddy of mine was asked for one a month ago. He didn’t have a printout for his onward travel so it ended up costing him 20 bucks.
To be on the safe side I would have something that proved you were heading onward But if you do get asked and you don’t have proof of onward travel then you have 4 ways to get out of it: -Buy an onward ticket (SOL if its after 8pm, sleep on a dirty floor until morning), tickets at the airport will cost you big bucks -Call a friend in the local government and have them work it out for ya. -Be the “Angry, Arrogant Guy” and Demand to see the supervisor, and then speak down to him because you are more important than him. Also say things like “This is BS” and “I am an important person”. Enjoy your flight home.(lol) -Ask to speak to the supervisor (in a white shirt) and be very polite, be respectful to his “high” position and say something like “The onward ticket is too expensive if I buy one here at the airport sir, I would really be thankful it if you could help me, maybe we could speak in your office sir?”. Don’t pay more than 50usd. – this is probably what will happen Independent International Travel, Expat, Work & Living Overseas, Flashpacking, Stuff and Blah, Blah, Lifestyle Magazine… www.TheProfessionalAdventurer.com |

Knows What a Schengen Visa Is |
Landed in Jakarta in January. I said I was going to East Timor via land on my entry form.
I flew from Jakarta to Yogyakarta, then by bus from Yogyakart to Bali via Mount Bromo. I was never questioned about my tickets or route. I ended up flying to East Timor from Bali. |
