Hi there

I'm currently in Bali, having a fantastic time, just wishing the swell would pickup a bit!
I've extended my stay here, so am now going to overstay my 30 Day Visa on Arrival by 5 days. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of the 'fine' of $20 US that can apparently be paid at the airport?
Or is my best option to go the slightly dodgy routethrough a contact in immigration and pay c.1million?

Thanks for any advice!

The overstaying fee is no big deal for the immigration officers. They'll happily scoot you away into a side and in the nicest possible way ask you for $20 for every day you are over. The 'dodgy' route is possible too so I've heard with 1.5m rp being about the going rate.

You'd have to calculate where your money is best spent.

Does anyone know if Indonesia issues tourist visas for longer than 30 days?

Yes, the 30 day visa is obtainable on arrival but you can get a 60 day tourist visa from an Indonesian consulate outside the country.

I will go to Jakarta next week and later plan to visit Bali and hopefully more islands further east. Surfing the Internet has given me two options for visa renewal: 1. Go to Dili/E.Timor, pay $35 at the Indonesian Embassy for a visa, take bus back to Kupang or 2. Fly to Batam and take a ferry to Singapore or fly directly to Singapore. Here one does NOT have to go to the Indonesian Embassy. Just f.ex. take the ferry back from Singapore to Batam and get a new visa on arrival. At least that is how I have understood it.

I thought one had to have a letter of invitation from an Indonesian person to get more than 30 days visa if one went to an Indonesian Embassy first?

Also, in this thread I learn about a new way. Having good relations with the immigration officials in Bali (and about 1.5 milj. IDR) can help. How does this way work? Is it only if you have overstayed you can use this method or can it be used for visa renewal in Bali? How long time can you extend? Where and how does one best approach the immigration officials with ones proposal?

(When I go to Indonesia I plan to get a visa on arrival in Jakarta, I assume that will mean 30 days.)

Thanks Smile
