Hi Nick - wondering if you have much info or experience with the NGO/charity/non profit organisations around the island? i found a good website called Bali Spirit which lists a few mostly in/around Bali and i have contacted the East Bali Poverty Project and IDEP Foundation - which i would love to have the opp to work for (ie volunteer) but am getting impatient waiting for replies...
other than that - im jealous you are already living in bali. do you surf or dive? Jo |

Jojo, I get an email alert from Bali Spirit (as well as half the living universe) telling me what's going on.
I've thought a lot about charities and how to get involved. My stumbling points are: 1. Corruption 2. Time commitment 3. Are local just using the charity as a crutch. 4. Do the locals actually want my help. I'm sure Bali Spirit is a fine outfit. There's an old saying, 'give a man a fish, feed him for a day, shove a fish up his ass and get his ass moving' or something like that. I'm into it as long as its a mutual collaboration. For me I have splashed about a few times with board. Have a scunba licence but never dived in Bali. |
