Most of us on this site love Bali for a variety of reasons, the people, the surf, the scenery etc. There are many ways that Bali could improve and will have to improve if it wants to be high on the list of places to visit.

What would you change (get rid of of or start) in Bali?

How about the presence of radical Islamists who have an unfortunate habit of blowing up westerners??

Love the Michael Bolton touch. I think they'd probably vomit after about an hour.

What I hear time and time again is 'too many aggressive touts' and too much garbage by the side of the road'.

One of the things I would change would be the legal system. Right now its law of the jungle, the strongman always wins. If you have a place where justice can be assured, you can deal with legal conflicts. If you have that, then there can be rules that are in place for good of all.

Without the legal system functioning well, what good are rules? People can hunt green sea turtle and pay off the cops. Build where they want, chuck garbage where they want and if worst comes to worst, pay for a legal 'solution'.

The buck has got to stop somewhere and that will be the basis for Bali and Indonesia stepping into the modern world. SBY is a straight shooter and is trying his best to weed out the selfish little men who use their postion for personal gain.

I agree about the touts. I understand they're trying to make a living but it gets old really quickly. Maybe if there was a viable economy in addition to tourism it would help.

Also agree about the visas. I think Bali has lost some visitors since the visa on arrival fees and restrictions went into effect. I know the majority of Bali's money comes from short term tourists who should be able to fork out $25 per person per visit (although it does get pricey for families) but they should make it easier for people to buy 60 day visas or extend the 30 day visas in country. There is a lot of confusion on this subject and I don't think it has helped tourism.

When In Bali I find most things pleasing but the one thing that both miffs and mystifies me is the $US mentality over there.I have no problem with converting my AUD to Rupiah value and vicky verky but especially when i go to the airport to come home my poor old brain just cannot cope with X Rupiah=X $US=X AUD!!!!!!!.
Would I be right in saying the majority of tourists visiting Bali are Aussie? So why the big thing with $US?
Cheers laurs

Bali is good already but I'd love that the bloody people (e.g. taxi/transport guys, shop keepers, or local people who are just being lazy around the town) stop thinking that local people/tourists (esp. ladies) who are with international tourists (esp. westerners) are bloody sluts. Be polite to local people.
