Has anyone used Air Asia (http://www.airasia.com) or AWAIR?
I just reserved seats to Jakarta on Qatar Air, but I am going to Bali. Qatar offered me a continuation on Garuda for over $500! I found roundtrip on Air Asia for about $75 (operated by AWAIR). The obvious concern is a dely or cancellation and I miss my flight out of Jakarta, but I don't know anything about this airline so I don't know the real risk. In the FAQ of airasia.com they say "We do not encourage you to book AirAsia flights in conjunction with other bookings." That's not very encouraging! |

Air Asia/AW Air are fine. I used them many times although not to Indonesia. They are the Ryan Air of SE Asia.

What they mean is that if you miss a connection it's not their fault and don't expect any compensation from them. We used Air Asia several times within Thailand, Malaysia and from KL to Bali and they were always on time. We did leave plenty of time (4-6 hours) between connecting flights just in case. Just keep in mind they have a very strict baggage allowance. Anything over 15 k (I think - check the website) for your checked baggage will incur a per kilo surcharge. And they will weigh your bags. |
